Join us at the Rock Creek Station Visitor Center Museum as we dedicate our newest exhibit installation, which tells the story of the Hammer’s Hill cache. This exhibit features a collection of prehistoric Native American artifacts discovered locally in Jefferson County, Nebraska, in the 1960s. Stone tool caches like the Hammer’s Hill cache are rare to find intact and provide a special glimpse into the life of the early indigenous peoples of the Great Plains.

Former Nebraska state archeologist Rob Bozell and Doug Kapke, one of the original discoverers of the cache, will kick off the open house and speak on the significance of the find and how the items were found and cared for over the years before their donation to the park. A ribbon cutting by the Fairbury Chamber of Commerce will take place following and light refreshments will be provided. Guests will have time to browse the museum after the ribbon cutting.

This event is free and open to the public and takes place on Nebraska Game and Parks annual Free Fishing and Park Entry Day. Guests visiting the park will not need to purchase a park entry permit to enjoy the event.
