The annual Fort Kearny Outdoor Expo showcases the state’s vast number of fun outdoor activities at beautiful Fort Kearny State Recreational Area. This event is designed to meet the needs of anyone interested in an outdoor lifestyle, regardless of age or experience. Those who attend can try fishing, archery, kayaking, camping and outdoor cooking, among other activities. They can also see, touch and learn more about Nebraska fish and wildlife species from wildlife biologists.
New events this year include:
- The Expo’s heritage encampment area is an official event of the Nebraska sesquicentennial and is dedicated to the Nebraska’s 150th celebration. Activities will include an outdoor heritage bingo, sample cast-iron Dutch oven food, meet-and-greet with Teddy Roosevelt, and watching blacksmithing and hide tanning.
- Famous for his coin trick, Byron Ferguson once shot eight dimes in a row out of the air. Don’t miss the legendary longbow archer Byron’s show.
- The action-packed Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show will feature log rolling, carving, chopping, sawing, axe throwing and much more. The Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show is historical, educational, humorous and filled with audience participation.
