DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to join our Park Naturalists\, local Audubon Society and fellow bird enthusiasts for our annual Christmas Bird Count at Ponca State Park on Sunday\, Dec. 14!\n\nWe will meet at the Resource and Education Center then break into teams. Come join the fun; learn bird identification tips and see some uncommon species. We’ll kick off day with our Early Morning Christmas Bird Count. A free soup lunch will be served at noon for those in attendance. The day with conclude with an Afternoon Christmas Bird Count.\nPonca State Park’s Christmas Bird Count is part of a nationwide Christmas Bird Count conducted by the National Audubon Society\, where data collected is utilized by conservationists and researchers around the world. \nPlease dress for the weather; and bring a water bottle\, binoculars\, and bird book. If you do not have binoculars or a bird book\, Ponca State Park will loan them to you. \nA valid state park vehicle permit is required for park entry.

Reservations can be made for a maximum of 12 riders or full hayracks (25 people) are $275. Payment is required at the time of your reservation and no refunds are available unless the event is canceled. Payment can be made over the phone with card only. Cash\, card or check will be accepted at the park. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a nature-filled Bioblitz at beautiful Ponca State Park on Saturday\, June 21. \nEnjoy many nature-themed activities and learn from Nebraska wildlife biologists and experts\, discovering and identifying as many plants and animals as possible while contributing to real scientific research. \nWhether you’re a seasoned naturalist\, beginner wildlife enthusiast\, student or family looking for a fun outdoor activity\, there is something for everyone. \nAll materials for sessions are provided. SUMMARY:Beginning Fly-Fishing and Fly-Tying at Ponca State Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Beginners Fly-Fishing and Fly-Tying Class at Ponca State Park April 26. \nAnglers can learn the basics of fly fishing and fly tying that will prepare them to catch trout and panfish this spring. Two workshops\, which are open to new and experienced fly fishers\, will include all fishing equipment\, materials and tools needed.  \nThere is a limit of 25 participants for each class and we would prefer that participants be of sufficient age to comfortably and confidently handle a 9 ft – 5 or 6 wt. fly rod.  This usually means that kids under about 12 years of age may have difficulty adequately handling a fly rod of that length and weight to move the line needed for casting.  If you have questions about this for potential younger participants\, please contact us at Cornhuskerflyfishers@gmail.com or larry.pape@nebraska.gov. \nThe Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will host this workshop\, led and taught by members of the Cornhusker Fly Fishers Club. \nCost: $25 per person per event for lunch\, refreshments and facilities (limited to the first 25 registrants at each event). \nRegister Here  \nDirections on how to pay will be given in a follow-up email from Cornhusker Fly Fishing Club after registration on the Sign-Up Genius Website.

DESCRIPTION:Highly anticipated Ladies Day on the Range event isn’t just about hitting targets; it’s about equipping women with knowledge and skills to feel confident and secure operating a firearm or archery equipment On April 26 from 9 – 11 a.m. Ponca State Park is just one of the six locations take part in the event. \nThroughout the event\, participants can try shotguns  and .22 handguns. The day is designed to blend education\, camaraderie and fun! \nCertified instructors will provide participants with a solid understanding of safety\, aiming techniques\, and firing basics. Whether you’re a seasoned shooter or new\, our welcoming atmosphere and expert instruction will ensure an unforgettable experience for women of all skill levels. \nEquipment and materials will be available to try or participants may bring their own. Ranges will vary on which firearm and archery is offered that day. \nAdvance registration fee is $15 and receive an outdoor related gift. Fee is $20 for those that don’t register before April 26. State park permit required.

SUMMARY:Marsh Madness at Ponca State Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Ponca State Park for Marsh Madness! \nHave you ever experienced the whirlwinds of the snow geese? The courtship displays of the pintail? The living blanket of Canadian geese covering the ground? Migration season in the Northeast region on Nebraska is generally at its peak the last week of February and all of March. \nPonca State Park celebrates the migration season with Marsh Madness. Marsh Madness is an opportunity for individuals and families to witness a multitude of migratory waterfowl within the park during guided Avian Adventure Blind Viewing Sessions or unguided bird viewings. Common springtime sightings include Pintail\, teal\, snow geese\, white-fronted geese\, wood ducks\, mallards\, bald eagles\, and more. \nWith Ponca State Park’s location\, adjacent to the Missouri River\, it presents a significant flyway that serves as the feeding\, breeding and staging ground for migratory birds. \nGuided sunrise and sunset waterfowl blind viewings are scheduled every Saturday\, March 1st thru March 29th.
