DESCRIPTION:Join other women for this handgun shooting workshop series for women\, taught by women on June 11\, 18 & 25 6-8 pm at the Outdoor Heritage Education Complex at Platte River State Park. This class will lead you through the basics of handgun safety\, handling and technique by shooting paper and steel targets. \nSession #1 will focus on gun handling by using Shot Indicating Resetting Trigger (SIRT) Training Pistols. We will cover magazines\, working actions and light shooting. Session #2 will increase shooting time\, build skills and add a variety of guns and actions. Session #3 we will use a training system to analyze shooting and correct problems. We will finish up with a fun competition shooting steel targets. At the conclusion of the workshop\, women will be able to identify parts of their handgun\, how to load magazines\, work actions\, grip\, stance\, and accuracy. \nThis is a Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program. \nParticipants may bring their own .22 handgun and ammunition that matches their gun. \nOpen to ladies 16 years and older. \nRegistration is required: Please email Julia Plugge at julia.plugge@nebraska.gov for registration instructions.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Outdoor Heritage Education Complex located within Platte River State Park for our Steel Plate Challenge! The Steel Plate Challenge is a speed shooting competition that consists of standardized stages with 5 steel targets\, ranging in size from 10″ round plates to 18×24″ rectangular plates from 7 yards – 35 yards away. Open to novice and experienced shooters ages 16 and up. \nREGISTRATION \nJune 5 event CANCELLED \nJuly 3 event – REGISTER HERE \nAug. 7 event – REGISTER HERE \nCost: $20 fee per person or $10 per person for those bringing their own firearms and ammo\, payable upon arrival. \nEquipment requirements: .22 (ONLY) rifles and handguns provided. Participants may bring their own .22 (ONLY) with their own ammo as none will be provided for personal equipment. All firearms must be in a case and will be inspected upon arrival. Eye and ear protection provided\, or you may bring your own. \nA current NGPC park permit sticker is required for park entry.

The day is designed to blend education\, camaraderie and fun! \nCertified instructors will provide participants with a solid understanding of safety\, aiming techniques\, and firing basics. Whether you’re a seasoned shooter or new\, our welcoming atmosphere and expert instruction will ensure an unforgettable experience for women of all skill levels. \nEquipment and materials will be available to try or participants may bring their own. Ranges will vary on which firearm and archery is offered that day. \nAdvance registration fee is $15 and receive an outdoor related gift. Fee is $20 for those that don’t register before April 26. State Park Permit will be required.

SUMMARY:Learn to Hunt Safely Weekend
DESCRIPTION:A hunter education focused weekend designed to give women the chance to learn the basics of hunter safety and gain firsthand firearm and archery experience in a fun\, safe environment. Basic hunter education course material will be taught through simulated hunting situations\, live fire exercises\, education and responsibility activities. Workshops will be led by women who are experienced hunters and certified volunteer hunter education instructors. \nCheck-in it 3:00 PM on Friday\, March 28 and weekend concludes on Sunday\, March 30 at 1:00 PM. $125.00 fee includes lodging in a cabin at Platte River State Park\, meals and materials. \nRegistration Terms \n\nPreregistration and fee is due by March 14\, 2025.  Register here\nFemale participants ages 12 years and older\nFemale participants 18 years and younger are required to be accompanied by a participating adult the full weekend.\nAdditional information will be emailed to registered participants.\n\nHunter Education certificate will be given at the end of the weekend.
