DESCRIPTION:Registration is for our Birds of a Feather series is FULL! Those wanting to be on a waiting list can fill out the registration and we will contact you should an opening become available.  \nGet ready to go birding by participating in the Birds of a Feather program at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park’s newly renovated James Family Conservatory and Nature Center. \nThis is a program is intended for elementary-aged youth and chaperones. We introduce a different birding topic each session to begin the program. When weather permits\, we will head outdoors for a hike or time in the birding area. The program runs approximately 60-90 minutes and is offered on select Tuesdays at 10 a.m. \nRegistration for these events in required. REGISTER HERE \nEvent Schedule\nMarch 3 – Beginner Birding: Learn how to be a birder as we explore beginner birding topics: identification\, tools and resources\, where to go birding and more. \nMarch 24 – Bird Mist-Netting: Observe the process of mist-netting\, a tool used to catch and band birds for research. DESCRIPTION:Join us this summer for some stargazing at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park! Powerful telescopes will be set up at the park’s golf shack for a glimpse of the night sky spectaculars. \n\nStargazing will begin at dusk. Remember to bring your camp chairs or blankets! Telescopes will be provided.\n\n  \n\n\n2026 Star Party dates\nFriday\, May 16 – no rain date\nFriday\, June 19 – rain date Saturday\, June 20*\nFriday\, July 24 – rain date Saturday\, July 25*\nFriday\, Aug. 21 – rain date Saturday\, Aug. 22*\nFriday\, September 11 – rain date Saturday\, Sept. 12* \n*If that Friday night is forecasted to have too many clouds\, substantial winds\, or rain\, then the next night\, Saturday\, will be the rescheduled event date. If Saturday night has a similar forecast\, then the event will be cancelled for the month. \nFor more information\, please contact park superintendent Melody Dillion at (402) 944-2523 ext. 7335. \nThe event is free to the public\, but you will need a valid Nebraska park entry permit for your vehicle.

Trail is hilly\, uneven and has steps.
