DESCRIPTION:Join us for Snakes of the West Hiking Tour on June 27 at 11 a.m. Mountain Time. This event will take place at the Walk to the Rock patio and parking lot across from the Chimney Rock Cemetery on County Road 98. \nTake a guided hike into the world of western snakes and discover how these often-misunderstood reptiles play an important role in healthy ecosystems. Along the way\, we’ll explore how to identify common species\, what they reveal about habitat health\, and how to safely share the landscape with them. \nPlease come prepared for hiking conditions; bring plenty of water\, wear sunscreen\, and make sure to wear close-toed shoes suitable for a mostly flat\, crushed-gravel 1.1-mile trail. \nWe look forward to connecting you with the landscape and wildlife that calls this area home!

SUMMARY:Walk to the Rock: Trail Trek Guided Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Chimney Rock National Historic Site for the first of a series of guided hikes as a part of this year’s Your Parks Adventure: Trail Trek program! \nThis guided hike will begin at at 9 a.m. Mountain Time. Meet at the patio. After a welcome and introduction\, we will walk to the Dillion bridge and back to Trail B so visitors may take selfie pictures at the Trails Trek sign before returning to the patio. \nDuring the walk\, visitors will learn about the geology of the Chimney Rock\, where the Overland trails were in relation to Chimney Rock\, and interesting facts about what life was like for emigrants traveling through the North Platte Valley on their way to Oregon or California. \nBack at the patio\, visitors will learn about the typical foods that the emigrants ate along the trail. There will be examples of the food staples that the emigrants carried with them. Visitors will be encouraged to take Nebraska hardtack with them after the program. \nThis event is free but admission is required to enter the museum.
