Rendezvous were historically held in the fall between fur traders and local Native American tribes and were a time to gather\, share trade goods such as skins\, furs\, beads\, food items\, weapons\, and knowledge. \nThroughout the event\, enjoy interactive educational activities with experts on Dutch oven cooking (peach cobbler)\, teepees\, chuck wagon 101\, trap setting\, gold mining\, black powder shooting\, quilting demonstrations and exhibit\, tomahawk throwing\, blacksmithing\, tin smithing\, wood working\, mini log cabin building\, a petting zoo\, trail rides\, food and craft vendors and more. \nSchool Days\nSchools are encouraged to sign up for field trips on Sept. 10 and Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon Mountain Time. Preregistration is required. Please call 308-778-7708 to schedule a field trip. \n  \nAdmission is free with a valid Nebraska park permit.

SUMMARY:Museum Exhibit Reception at Ash Hollow
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Ash Hollow State Historical Park’s Visitor Center on Saturday\, May 23 at 1:30 p.m. Mountain Time for a reception featuring new exhibit collection. \nKaren Little Thunder\, Phil Little Thunder and Paul Harney Soderman\, all descendants of Chief Little Thunder and General Harney\, key players at the 1855 altercation here in Ash Hollow\, will offer their comments and speak to the importance of the collection being returned to the area. The reception will open and close with a musical prayer for healing by Joseph Medicine Robe.  \nThe main topic is the 1855 massacre belongings which were returned to the family last fall and are now housed here at Ash Hollow. They have been held with the Smithsonian since 1856 and  formally accessioned in 1865. The exhibit includes a doll\, two pairs of moccasins\, a saddle pad\, quiver\, bow and arrow and a bison bladder pouch containing beautiful dyed quills. The items will be on display through May 25. \nGuests are welcome to stay and enjoy refreshments\, ask questions or tour the park until we close for the day at 4 p.m.   \nThis event is hosted by Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation\, Wander Nebraska and Nebraska Game and Parks. \nAdmission: $5 for ages 13 and up\, $2 for ages 12 and under \nA valid Nebraska state park vehicle permit is required for park entry.

SUMMARY:First Day Hike at Ash Hollow State Historical Park
DESCRIPTION:Ring in the new year in the great outdoors with a guided first day hike at Ash Hollow State Historical Park! Meet in the Overlook Trailhead parking lot at 10 a.m. on New Year’s Day for a hike. This moderate 1.2-mile hike starts off a bit steep and rocky\, then tapers off to a nice\, smooth hiking trail until you descend into the hollow again (strollers not recommended). \nFeel free to join us at the Visitor’s Center after the hike (around noon) for a potluck lunch — bring a soup or side to share. Tableware will be provided. \nIn 2026\, Nebraska Game and Parks will join the nation in celebrating 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This milestone is a unique opportunity to connect Nebraskans with the state’s rich natural\, cultural\, and outdoor heritage. To commemorate the occasion\, park staff will be handing out free 250th Anniversary First Day Hike stickers\, while supplies last! \nParticipants should dress for the weather and remember to bring snacks and water\, and binoculars\, if desired. Friendly pets are allowed on a six-foot leash. A valid 2026 Nebraska state park vehicle permit is required for entry and can be purchased at the park. \n
