DESCRIPTION:The Nature at Nightfall event that was scheduled to take place on Friday 9/25/2026 at Prairie Pines has been cancelled due to the rain forecasted all weekend. \nPlease join us on September 25th\, 2026 from 6:30-10PM at Prairie Pines Nature Preserve as we welcome our transition into the Fall season by exploring nature as the sun begins to set. There is so much to discover from dusk to nightfall as the days grow shorter and the nights grow longer. We will have a wide array of activities going on throughout the evening so there is sure to be something for everyone! \nActivities will be scattered around the Prairie Pines property and there will be plenty of maps and signs to help guide you. Below is a lineup for the evening: \nLive Reptiles & Amphibians– 6:30-8PM\nDusk to Nightfall Hikes– 6:30\, 7\, 7:30PM\nNocturnal Animal Pelts– 6:30-8PM\nLive Owl Presentations– 7\, 7:30\, 8PM\nMoth Lighting– 8-10PM\nBat Mist Netting– 8-10PM\nAstronomy– 8-10PM \nThis event requires registration\, please register HERE! \nDue to parking limitations\, registration will close at 230 guests \nWe recommend dressing in layers and checking the weather right before heading out as it may get chilly throughout the evening. SUMMARY:Schramm After Dark: Moth Lighting
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of National Moth Week\, educators from Nebraska Extension and Nebraska Game and Parks will lead a moth lighting at Schramm Park State Recreation Area. Bring a flashlight\, search for moths at the light trap\, and learn about moths and other nocturnal insects in Nebraska. We will use the iNaturalist app to document the species we encounter and collect data about nocturnal insects in the park. Data collected during this event will contribute to the Biodiversity in Nebraska State Parks initiative.\n**Collection of insects at this event is not permitted.**\n\nMeet at the park shelter next to pond A. A state park vehicle entry permit is required for vehicles entering the park. Visitors may also park in the parking lot of the Schramm Education Center (no permit required) and walk to the park shelter.\n\nAccommodation requests for attendance may be directed to Kait Chapman at least two weeks prior to the program at kchapman13@unl.edu or 402-441-7180. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time to meet access needs.

DESCRIPTION:The goal of Dead Ahead: Nebraska’s Roadkill Reporting Project is simple but impactful — collect enough statewide data to clearly identify wildlife-crossing hotspots and peak movement trends. Wildlife-vehicle collision data can help us make Nebraska a safer place for wildlife and humans. \nJoin us on July 18th\, 2026 | 10am-12pm at Schramm Education Center for a training workshop that will teach participants how to conduct surveys for this new roadkill reporting project! \nNebraska Game and Parks is looking for dedicated volunteers that can commit to conducting roadkill observation (photo only) surveys every month following the schedule below: \nDue to peak wildlife movement periods\, each site should be surveyed at least twice a month. \n\nFeb-Apr\nSept-Nov\n\nOutside of these peak seasons\, sites should be surveyed a minimum of once a month. \n\nDec-Jan\nMay-Aug\n\nIn this training workshop\, participants will: \n\nLearn about community science\nGain a deeper understanding of road ecology and how it impacts wildlife and humans\nAcquire basic ID skills for common animals in Nebraska\nRun through how to conduct a survey and upload observation data to iNaturalist\nReceive resources and materials\n\nRegistration is required to attend this workshop please REGISTER HERE.
