SUMMARY:Where City Meets Marsh: Water\, Birds & Bats
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Marsh Wren Saline Wetland (north of Lincoln) on Thursday evening\, Oct. 15 to explore how water quality\, restoration and surrounding land use shape a saline wetland and the habitat for the birds and bats that call this wetland home. \nDuring this field workshop\, participants will learn about water quality monitoring and the information it provides to scientists and land managers. The group will explore how restoration projects are planned\, progress is evaluated\, wetlands are affected by their location along the urban-rural fringe\, and how this impacts wildlife. \nA water quality sensor will help demonstrate how field measurements contribute to a better understanding of wetland conditions and restoration needs. \n  \nTopics and activities include: \n-Introduction to water quality monitoring and field equipment \n-Saline wetland restoration and evaluating progress \n-Challenges and opportunities along the urban-rural fringe \n-A walk to look and listen for birds and bats and discussion of how they’re impacted by the saline wetland and nearby Lincoln \n  \nImportant field information: \nThis is an outdoor field workshop that will include hiking on uneven terrain and activities near soggy ground and water. Closed-toe shoes are required. Participants should bring bug spray and dress appropriately for the weather and field conditions. \nThis workshop is weather permitting. If it must be canceled because of weather or unsafe conditions\, registered participants will be notified by email at least two hours before the scheduled start time. \nThis event is free of charge and open to the public! \nAttendance is limited to 25 participants due to limited parking. We encourage carpooling. Advance registration is required. \nREGISTER HERE \n  \nThis event is hosted by the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District (LPSNRD) in partnership with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
