Mahoney State Park’s newly renovated James Family Conservatory and Nature Center. \nThis is a program is intended for elementary-aged youth and chaperones. We introduce a different birding topic each session to begin the program. When weather permits\, we will head outdoors for a hike or time in the birding area. The program runs approximately 60-90 minutes and is offered on select Tuesdays at 10 a.m. \nRegistration for these events in required. DESCRIPTION:Looking to get outdoors and volunteer? Schramm Park SRA holds regular volunteer opportunities to assist with land management efforts. Join NGPC staff as we work on activities such as invasive species removal\, seed collection\, trail maintenance\, brush piling\, and tree planting.\nRegister in advance if plan to attend so we can estimate head count for work materials: https://arcg.is/H1L5S2\nWear sturdy\, closed-toed shoes and long pants\, bring water\, and outdoor work/garden gloves. Long sleeves are also recommended. All ages are welcome for this opportunity\, but anyone under the age of 18 must have an accompanying adult.\nMeet at the park shelter next to Pond A. We’ll kick things off with an introduction to the project at the posted start time and then get started. Volunteers will need to sign a standard volunteer waiver upon arrival. We are meeting in the park\, so a state park vehicle permit is required.

SUMMARY:Schramm After Dark: Moth Lighting
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of National Moth Week\, educators from Nebraska Extension and Nebraska Game and Parks will lead a moth lighting at Schramm Park State Recreation Area. Bring a flashlight\, search for moths at the light trap\, and learn about moths and other nocturnal insects in Nebraska. We will use the iNaturalist app to document the species we encounter and collect data about nocturnal insects in the park. Data collected during this event will contribute to the Biodiversity in Nebraska State Parks initiative.\n**Collection of insects at this event is not permitted.**\n\nMeet at the park shelter next to pond A. A state park vehicle entry permit is required for vehicles entering the park. Visitors may also park in the parking lot of the Schramm Education Center (no permit required) and walk to the park shelter.\n\nAccommodation requests for attendance may be directed to Kait Chapman at least two weeks prior to the program at kchapman13@unl.edu or 402-441-7180. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time to meet access needs.

SUMMARY:Rafting and Rocks at Schramm Park SRA
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Schramm Park for an evening of rafting and rocks! We’ll have two activities to try. Round Rafts will be available for floating around on a pond and we will also be at the geological outcrop to explore the limestone layers and assist guests with discovering fossils in the rocks.\n\n\nPreregistration (Walk-ins welcome when class is below capacity.): REGISTER HERE\n\n\nNote: Round Raft Program Regulations: You must wear and fit in a life jacket and must be 8 & up to participate. Youth under 8 may ride with an adult chaperone if together are within craft weight limits or in tandem. Round Raft weight limit 225 lbs. Dress to get wet and bring towels.\n\n\nLocation: Schramm Park State Recreation Area\, Geological Outcrop and Pond near Outcrop/River Launch parking area.
