SUMMARY:Trail Trek Guided Hike: Engineer Cantonment
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Engineer Cantonment in Omaha for the sixth of a series of guided hikes as a part of this year’s Your Parks Adventure: Trail Trek program! \nFormer Nebraska State Archaeologist\, Rob Bozell\, will share the history or the Engineer Cantonment site as well as archaeological insights. Participants will walk to the site from the county road.  \nThis program will last approximately one hour. Length of walk is approximately one-quarter mile.  \nEngineer Cantonment is located .2 miles south of the intersection of County Road P51 and Bluebird Lane\, Omaha.  There is limited parking at the site and all others will need to safely park along side the road. Watch for yard signs with more information. \nThis program is in partnership with the Nebraska State Historical Society’s WanderNebraska program.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park for the fifth in a series of guided hikes as a part of this year’s Your Parks Adventure: Trail Trek program! \nJoin Jeff Barnes\, Nebraska historian and author of The Great Plains Guide to Buffalo Bill\, for an insightful and informative tour of Buffalo Bill Cody’s home property. This property is a National Historic Landmark and the walking tour will discuss the mansion\, horse barn\, several outbuildings\, Duck Pond\, as well as other historic features of the property. A Buffalo Bill impersonator will be on hand and Barnes will sign purchased copies of his book. \nThe tour will be approximately half a mile on level ground. \nThis event is free and open to the public\, but a valid state park vehicle permit is required for park entry. \nThis program is in partnership with the Nebraska State Historical Society’s WanderNebraska program.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Missouri River Basin Lewis and Clark Visitor Center for the fourth in a series of guided hikes as a part of this year’s Your Parks Adventure: Trail Trek program! \nJoin the museum’s Executive Director\, Doug Friedli\, for a guided hike along the Tree Trail and walk in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark to learn about their historic expedition through this area and its importance to the growth of the United States and eventually Nebraska. \nThe Tree Trail is one mile long and features an overlook of the Missouri River. The trail has a chipped wood surface and is stroller friendly. \nLiving history reenactors will be on site at 10 a.m. and Joe Starita\, author of I Am a Man\, will give a special presentation at 11 a.m. \nThis program is in partnership with the Nebraska State Historical Society’s WanderNebraska program. \n

Total round trip walk is about one half mile on uneven ground. \nThis program is in partnership with the Nebraska State Historical Society’s WanderNebraska program.

This hike allows participants to cross a reconstructed toll bridge and pass through original wagon ruts that still exist on the landscape.  \nThe trail is approximately one mile long on firm terrain. The hike still start at 1 p.m. Central Time. \nThis activity is free\, but a valid state park vehicle permit is required for park entry. \nThis program is in partnership with the Nebraska State Historical Society’s WanderNebraska program.

SUMMARY:Walk to the Rock: Trail Trek Guided Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Chimney Rock National Historic Site for the first of a series of guided hikes as a part of this year’s Your Parks Adventure: Trail Trek program! \nThis guided hike will begin at at 9 a.m. Mountain Time. Meet at the patio. After a welcome and introduction\, we will walk to the Dillion bridge and back to Trail B so visitors may take selfie pictures at the Trails Trek sign before returning to the patio. \nDuring the walk\, visitors will learn about the geology of the Chimney Rock\, where the Overland trails were in relation to Chimney Rock\, and interesting facts about what life was like for emigrants traveling through the North Platte Valley on their way to Oregon or California. \nBack at the patio\, visitors will learn about the typical foods that the emigrants ate along the trail. There will be examples of the food staples that the emigrants carried with them. Visitors will be encouraged to take Nebraska hardtack with them after the program. \nThis event is free but admission is required to enter the museum.
