SUMMARY:Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Learn to Hunt Safely Weekend
DESCRIPTION:A hunter education focused weekend designed to give women the chance to learn the basics of hunter safety and gain firsthand firearm and archery experience in a fun\, safe environment. Basic hunter education course material will be taught through simulated hunting situations\, live fire exercises\, education and responsibility activities. Workshops will be led by women who are experienced hunters and certified volunteer hunter education instructors. \nFemale participants ages 12 years through 18 are required to be accompanied by a participating adult the full weekend. \n$200 Fee includes cabin lodging at Ponca State Park and meals. Note that participants will share a cabin.  Assignments will be made by the event coordinator unless otherwise noted. (separate bedrooms). \nREGISTER HERE \nAll equipment\, including archery and firearms will be provided.\nHunter Education certificate will be given at the end of the weekend.

DESCRIPTION:Second Shots Pistol is designed to build on the handgun skills introduced in our FIRST SHOTS course. It’s also a good refresher for those who are years out of practice. \nStudents learn more about ammunition\, loading a magazine\, clearing a pistol and locking the slide back\, and handling malfunctions. Plus\, students get the practical experience of loading and shooting a variety of handgun styles and calibers in the range. \nIn the range\, the basics of stance\, sight picture\, and trigger control are emphasized to maximize success. After completing this class\, participants will be prepared to safely use the range on their own. \nOverall\, Second Shots Pistol teaches the basic knowledge\, skills\, and attitude necessary for owning and using a handgun safely. The small class size allows students to ask questions and receive individual advice. \nCourse covers: \n\nHandgun knowledge & review safe handling\nReview fundamentals of handgun shooting\nAmmunition knowledge\nActual range practice\nA variety of pistols\, ammo\, and targets provided\n\nPlease bring your own eye and ear protection. \nIf you have your own pistol\, you may bring it to use on the range (be sure to bring 50 rounds of ammunition). \nClosed-neck shirts and closed-toe shoes are recommended. \nFor students age 16 and over. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Turpin Outdoor Education Center’s Pistol Matches on March 28\, 2026. \nThis stand-alone match is open to pistols from all manufacturers. All matches are shot from a one-handed standing position. See information below about courses of fire. \nThis month’s matches will be: \nFree pistol (.22) NRA Sectional \nStandard pistol (.22) NRA Sectional \nCMP Air Pistol \nCompetitors may shoot one\, two or all three matches. First entry is $25\, second is $12\, and third is $10. This month’s Free Pistol Match and Standard Pistol Match are official NRA Sectionals with an additional $5 competitor fee each. \nFor target\, distance\, rounds\, and timing summary\, see below. Complete event rules can be found here. \nSCHEDULE \nSaturday\, March 28: Relays available for Free Pistol\, Standard Pistol\, and CMP Air Pistol from 8 am to 12 pm. Select relay during registration. \nPRIZES will be awarded for first place in Free Pistol\, Standard Pistol\, or CMP Air Pistol matches. Additional prizes may be awarded by random drawing. \nMATCHES \nCompetitors may shoot an official entry in all of the matches. \nFree Pistol \nAlso called 50 Meter Pistol. Open to any .22 caliber rimfire pistol with open sights; see rulebook for complete gun specifications. There is a 15-minute preparation and sighter period prior to record shots. All 60 record shots fired within 1 ¾ hour (105 minute) time limit. Uses target B-11 at 50 feet. \nStandard Pistol \nAlso called 25 Meter Pistol. Open to any .22 caliber rimfire pistols with open sights; see rulebook for complete gun specifications. Five sighters may be fired in a 150 second time limit. This is a 60 shot match divided into 3 stages. \nStage 1: 5 shots in 2.5 minutes [150 seconds]\, 4 times = 20 shots \nStage 2: 5 shots in 20 seconds\, 4 times = 20 shots \nStage 3: 5 shots in 10 seconds\, 4 times = 20 shots \nUses target B-33 at 50 feet. Course of fire takes about 30 minutes to complete. \nCMP Air Pistol \nOpen to .177 caliber air pistols with open sights; see rulebook for complete gun specifications. There is a 15-minute preparation and sighter period prior to record shots. All 60 record shots fired within 1 ½ hour (90 minute) time limit. Uses standard B-40 10 meter target. \nREGISTER HERE
