You may still sign up to be placed on a wait list and you will be notified the week of the event if space opens up.**\n\n\nSpring is the perfect time to fly a kite! Sign up to join us at the Schramm Treehouse Classroom for a kite-making workshop on Free Park Entry Day and in celebration of Nebraska Bird Month. Dominique Ellis with the Center for Great Plains Studies and Great Plains Art Museum will lead this hands-on\, kid-friendly workshop. We’ll start with a short presentation about the rich cultural history of kites\, look at some Nebraska birds for inspiration\, and then dive into constructing and decorating your own bird kite to take home.\nPlease register in advance here: https://arcg.is/1XCqvT1. This workshop is limited to 25 kite makers. While all ages are welcome\, kite construction is best accomplished by ages 8+.

SUMMARY:Celebrate Bird Month at Ponca State Park
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Nebraska Bird Month on Saturday\, May 23 at Ponca State Park! \n9-11 a.m. – All About Bluebirds program: Learn about the bluebirds that spend their summer at Ponca State Park. Inspect bluebird boxes\, observe nests\, eggs\, and birds. Meet at the backwaters parking lot. \n  \nNoon-2 p.m. – Build Your Own Birdfeeders: Learn about birds that live near Ponca State Park. Create a pinecone and peanut butter feeder to take back to your cabin or home! There is a cost of $3 per person for this session. Meet at the Resource and Education Center. \n  \n3-5 p.m. – Owl Pellets: Learn how owls swallow their prey whole and then regurgitate the indigestible material. Participants will be given an owl pellet to investigate\, dissect\, and ID. There is a $4 cost per person for this program. \n  \nA valid state park vehicle permit is required for park entry. \n
