DESCRIPTION:Homeschool Hikes is a monthly nature exploration program hosted by the Schramm Education Center geared towards homeschool families. Each month\, families can join a naturalist for a guided hike on the Schramm Park State Recreation Area hiking trails. During the program\, participants will ask questions\, draw\, observe\, and make discoveries in nature. \nThe cost to participate is $5 per person per program (adult and children are same price). This includes admission to the Schramm Education Center after the program. Schramm Family Pass members participate free. This program is recommended for ages 5 and up. Please register here so we can estimate attendance numbers: https://arcg.is/1HO45W0. \nParticipants should dress in season-appropriate layers and wear closed-toed shoes that can get dirty. Hats and water bottles are recommended. SUMMARY:Schramm Land Stewards - Volunteer Opportunity!
DESCRIPTION:Looking to get outdoors and volunteer? Schramm Park SRA is holding a volunteer opportunity to assist with oak woodland restoration efforts. Join NGPC staff as we walk the prairie to harvest seeds from native prairie plants. Seeds will be used to help with oak savanna restoration efforts. \nWear sturdy\, closed-toed shoes and long pants\, bring water\, and outdoor work gloves. Long sleeves are also recommended. All ages are welcome for this opportunity\, but anyone under the age of 18 must have an accompanying adult. \nRegister in advance if plan to attend so we can estimate head count for work materials: https://arcg.is/H1L5S2. \nMeet in the Schramm Education Center lobby. We’ll kick things off at 9 am with an introduction to the project and then hike to the prairie as a group to get started. DESCRIPTION:Have you ever heard a rattlesnake? Smelled snake musk? Felt the keeled scales of a garter snake?\nSchramm Education Center is hosting its annual “Snakes of Nebraska” event on Saturday\, August 9th and Sunday\, August 10th! University of Nebraska-Lincoln herpetologist Dennis Ferraro and his lab will lead a live snake encounter featuring most of Nebraska’s 29 snake species. The live snake exhibits will be set up open-house style in the Schramm Education Center classroom and will be available on both Saturday and Sunday from 10 am – 4:30 pm.\n\nAt this free event\, you can see most of Nebraska’s 29 snake species\, meet UNL herpetologist Dennis Ferraro\, ask an expert your snake questions\, and even see venomous snakes up close. DESCRIPTION:Looking to get outdoors and volunteer? Schramm Park SRA is holding a volunteer opportunity to assist with oak woodland restoration efforts. Join NGPC staff as we work on trail maintenance\, brush piling\, and forest floor cleanup along the Hackberry and Red Cedar trails.\nWear sturdy\, closed-toed shoes and long pants\, bring water\, and outdoor work gloves. Long sleeves are also recommended. All ages are welcome for this opportunity\, but anyone under the age of 18 must have an accompanying adult.\nRegister in advance if plan to attend so we can estimate head count for work materials: https://arcg.is/H1L5S2.\nMeet at the park shelter next to Pond A. We’ll kick things off at 9 am with an introduction to the project and then hike up into the forest as a group to get started. Volunteers will need to sign a standard volunteer waiver upon arrival. The Schramm Education Center will be hosting a Pollinator Party event in partnership with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Bee Lab\, Nebraska Extension\, the UNL Entomology Department\, and the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum. This free\, annual event is part of a statewide celebration of Nebraska Pollinator Week. Activities for all ages will be set up outside and in the Schramm Education Center Classroom.
