As darkness falls\, guests will be led by costumed guides through the dimly lit 52-room mansion\, with only (battery-operated) candles and candelabras to light the way. Each room holds a story — some historical\, some mysterious — as the tour blends the history of ghosts\, some Nebraska history\, Victorian customs and superstitions\, and just enough spooky folklore to give guests goosebumps. \nThis will not be a typical haunted house experience\, but there will be some subtle theatrical effects for added suspense. DESCRIPTION:Looking to get outdoors and volunteer? Schramm Park SRA is holding a volunteer opportunity to assist with oak woodland restoration efforts. Join NGPC staff as we walk the prairie to harvest seeds from native prairie plants. Seeds will be used to help with oak savanna restoration efforts. \nWear sturdy\, closed-toed shoes and long pants\, bring water\, and outdoor work gloves. Long sleeves are also recommended. All ages are welcome for this opportunity\, but anyone under the age of 18 must have an accompanying adult. \nRegister in advance if plan to attend so we can estimate head count for work materials: https://arcg.is/H1L5S2. \nMeet in the Schramm Education Center lobby. We’ll kick things off at 9 am with an introduction to the project and then hike to the prairie as a group to get started. DESCRIPTION:Join the Platte Valley Astronomical Observers for a free stargazing event beginning at dusk Oct. 18 at Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area. \nBring your family or friends\, camping chairs and appropriate clothing to the Boardman Creek Campground where you can learn about the night sky\, constellations and how wildlife respond to light at night. \nVisitors will get a constellation tour before using telescopes to explore the night sky. Merritt\, a designated International Dark Sky Park\, offers some of the darkest skies on earth. \nThe event is a collaboration among the Niobrara National Scenic River division of the National Park Service\, the Platte Valley Astronomical Observers and the state recreation area. \nThe event will be cancelled if it’s too cloudy or windy. \nA valid Nebraska state park vehicle permit is required for park entry.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Spooktacular Halloween event at Branched Oak State Recreation Area! \nSCHEDULE\n3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. \nHead to the east side of the water tower to enjoy the apple sling\, Plinko\, the fish pond\, hula hoop\, ring toss\, bag toss\, zipline\, photo booth\, a pumpkin train\, basketball shoot\, photo booth and pumpkin carving. \nPumpkins will be for sale – $2 for a small\, $3 for a large. \n5 p.m. COSTUME CONTEST – prizes will be given to the top 2 in each age group (5 & under\, 6-10\, 11-16\, 17 & older). \n6:30 p.m. CAMPER DECORATING CONTEST – Decorate your campsite in preparation for the trick-or-treaters! Prizes will be given out to the top 6 places. \n6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. CAMPGROUND TRICK-OR-TREATING – campsites/campers participating will display a trick-or-treat ghost on their campsite post. \n7 p.m. – 8:45 p.m. HAUNTED TRAIL RIDES – Take a hayrack ride through our haunted trail. You will have to sign up for a time slot when you purchase your tickets. Hayrack rides will go out every five minutes starting at 7 p.m. We will only sell 650 tickets. Purchase tickets in advance beginning Sept. 15 by calling the park office at 402-783-3400. \nCost: $7 for ages 12 & under; $9 for ages 13+; children 3 & under are free \nPick up pre-purchased tickets at the park office during business hours\, M-F from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.\, or at the booth in Middle Oak Creek Campground on Oct. 18. \nHelpful Information\nA valid 2025 state park vehicle permit is required for entry. A daily pass or annual pass can be purchased at the gate\, or in advance online to avoid long lines. \nVisitor parking will be north of Middle Oak Creek Campground. All vehicle traffic in the campground will be closed for the safety of the trick-or-treaters between 6 p.m. and will not reopen until 9:30 p.m. No exceptions.

SUMMARY:Schramm Stewards Volunteer Opportunity: Oak Tree Planting
DESCRIPTION:Looking to get outdoors and volunteer? Schramm Park SRA is holding a volunteer opportunity to assist with oak woodland restoration efforts. Join NGPC staff as plant oak trees grown by volunteers along the hackberry trail.\nWear sturdy\, closed-toed shoes and long pants\, bring water\, and outdoor work gloves. Bring a small hand shovel if you have one. Long sleeves are also recommended. All ages are welcome for this opportunity\, but anyone under the age of 18 must have an accompanying adult.\nRegister in advance if plan to attend so we can estimate head count for work materials: https://arcg.is/H1L5S2.\nMeet at the park shelter next to Pond A. We’ll kick things off at 10:00 am with an introduction to the project and then hike to our planting site (about 1/2 mile). Volunteers will need to sign a standard volunteer waiver upon arrival.

Kids get a prize upon completion; adults get bragging rights! \n  \n\nOctober 10\n5:30 – 7:30 p.m.: Trick-or-Treat on the Town – Children up to age 12 are invited to go trick-or-treating along the decorated trail through the town of St. Deroin.\nPricing: $3 per person ages 4+\, free for ages 3 and under (includes hayrack ride).\n\n  \n\n\nOctober 11\, 18\, 25\n2 p.m.: Pumpkin Roll for all ages; $3 per person\n7 – 9 p.m.: Haunted Hayrack Rides – Adults: $9\, kids ages 4-12 yrs: $7\, ages 3 and under: free. Tickets go on sale on October 1 and may be purchased by phone or in person.
