Learn about the nocturnal creatures that call Wildcat Hills home while exploring the trail by flashlight. It’s sure to be a “howling” good time! \nLocation – Meet at the Nature Center at 7 p.m. Mountain Time. \nTerrain – The Nature Trail is a short but rugged hike with uneven\, rocky terrain\, several rocky steps\, and some elevation changes. \nWhat to bring – Participants should be comfortable walking on natural\, uneven surfaces in low-light conditions. Sturdy\, closed-toe hiking shoes are recommended. Please bring a flashlight and a sense of adventure! \nThis is a FREE event\, but a valid Nebraska state park vehicle permit is required for entry.

DESCRIPTION:Become a certified Youth Fishing Instructor by attending a class at the Wildcat Hills Nature Center in Gering on Thursday\, April 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. Mountain Time. \nYouth Fishing Instructors are part of the Youth Fishing Program\, a statewide team of volunteers and Game and Parks staff who host educational fishing events. \nWorkshop participants will receive training and tools to conduct youth fishing clinics. These volunteers will have access to Game and Parks’ loaner fishing equipment and educational materials for events. They also will receive program incentives. SUMMARY:First Day Hike at Wildcat Hills SRA
DESCRIPTION:Kick off the new year with a scenic hike at Wildcat Hills SRA at 1 p.m. Mountain Time on New Year’s Day! \nHikers can choose from two hiking trails: the Nature Trail (1/2 mile) and the Turkey Run Trail (2 mile). Both hikes will begin at the Nature Center. Both trails are dirt/gravel surfaced. The Turkey Run Trail has some steeper hills and slopes. Neither trail is good for strollers. Dogs are allowed on a six foot leash. \nHot chocolate\, coffee and cookies will be available at the Nature Center after the hikes. \nA 2026 Nebraska state park vehicle permit is required for entry and can be purchased at the park entrance.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening at Wildcat Hills SRA to observe the Perseid Meteor shower. We’ll have a high-powered telescope set up for incredible views of the night sky—including stars\, planets\, and maybe even a shooting star or two. This program will take place at the back loop of the park. \nBring along a blanket or chair\, water\, bug spray and a sense of wonder. Nebraska State Park permits are required for this FREE event and may be purchased in the parks drop boxes with exact change (Daily permits are $7 for a Nebraska license vehicle or $14 for a non-Nebraska registered vehicle) or check. \nFor more information about this program\, please call the Nature Center at 308-436-3777. \nCome along and wish upon a star in the Wildcat Hills.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free field training to gain hands-on experience with the Nebraska Bumble Bee Atlas! The Atlas is a community science project aiming to track and conserve bumble bees in the state. Anyone is welcome to join the Atlas\, no experience is needed\, just a drive to help conserve pollinators! \nDuring this event\, participants will gain hands-on experience with the Atlas protocol\, including netting\, chilling\, and photographing bees\, as well as data recording/entry. The Atlas uses non-lethal survey methods\, so no bees are harmed during the project. The training will take place outside\, so please bring water\, closed-toed shoes\, and sun protection. The Atlas is a collaboration between Xerces Society and Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. \nRegistration is required. REGISTER HERE \nWe will meet at the picnic tables outside of the Nature Center. A state park permit is required for entry.
