DESCRIPTION:Step back in time to visit a mountain man-era encampment during our 10th Annual Table Creek Rendezvous at Arbor Lodge State Historical Park\, September 26-28. \nOutdoor demonstrations will include musical entertainment\, leather sewing\, rigid heddle weaving\, hand quilting\, fire building\, a mountain man reenactor\, painting\, tomahawk throwing\, butter making\, wood carving\, tour-of-the teepee\, skins and skulls\, ropemaking\, frontier medicine\, cider press demonstrations and more! \nDon’t miss Paul Siebert’s “Echos of an Era” musical program Saturday morning at 11 a.m.\, hosted by Humanities Nebraska and Friends of Arbor Lodge. Winds of the Plains\, a Native American flute group\, will perform on Sunday afternoon. \nThe Nebraska Game and Parks History trailer will also be in the park for guest viewing.  There will be a skins and skulls display\, and history of the Eastern Nebraska fur trade inside the mansion. SUMMARY:Umbrella Match for Handguns Fall 2025 - Match 1
DESCRIPTION:Registration for the Outdoor Education Center’s Umbrella Match for handguns on September 23 or 27\, 2025. This match will be offered on two dates – attend on whichever day works best for your schedule (Tuesday or Saturday). \nThis is a three-match series open to pistols from all manufacturers. The course of fire will be the same as the GSSF Indoor League Series. \nThis is the first match for this series. Competitors must shoot in two out of the three available matches (September\, October\, November) to be eligible for prizes. October 21 or 25 and November 18 or 22 are the scheduled dates for the second and third matches. \nCompetitors may shoot up to 6 divisions – Centerfire Stock\, Centerfire Unlimited\, Centerfire Single Stack/Revolver\, Rimfire Stock\, Rimfire Unlimited\, and Rimfire Revolver. For division descriptions\, see below. First entry is $20\, second is $10\, and third through sixth (each) is $5. Secondary entries in the same division are $5 each and only count as additional chances in the prize drawings. \nThis match will follow GSSF’s ‘Original’ course of fire for all Stock and Unlimited divisions and ‘Option E’ for Single Stack/Revolver divisions. DESCRIPTION:The 49th Annual Nebraska Youth Smallbore Silhouette Invitational will be September 27\, 2025 at the Pressey Wildlife Management Area (located 17 miles south of Broken Bow). This is a FREE event\, open to all youth age 11 or older who have successfully completed Hunter Education and who have not yet graduated from high school. Proof of Hunter Education completion is required. \nAll first-time shooters at the event will receive one free box of .22 ammo! \nThis metal target event is meant to be fun while providing a challenge for .22 rifle shooters from beginner to advanced. Each participant will shoot 40 scoring shots from a standing position: 10 shots at 44 yards\, 10 shots at 66 yards\, 10 shots at 84 yards\, and 10 shots at 109 yards. \nThe range will open for practice at 8 a.m. Matches will begin at 10:30 a.m. and conclude mid-afternoon. Individuals are encouraged to enter and may opt to join their scores with others for team rankings. Individuals and teams will compete against others in their own class according to age\, rifle weight\, sight type\, and experience level. Trophies and medals will be awarded to the winners of each class. \nEar and eye protection will be required for all persons on the line. SUMMARY:Homeschool Hikes
DESCRIPTION:Homeschool Hikes is a monthly nature exploration program hosted by the Schramm Education Center geared towards homeschool families. Each month\, families can join a naturalist for a guided hike on the Schramm Park State Recreation Area hiking trails. During the program\, participants will ask questions\, draw\, observe\, and make discoveries in nature. \nThe cost to participate is $5 per person per program (adult and children are same price). This includes admission to the Schramm Education Center after the program. Schramm Family Pass members participate free. This program is recommended for ages 5 and up. Please register here so we can estimate attendance numbers: https://arcg.is/1HO45W0. \nParticipants should dress in season-appropriate layers and wear closed-toed shoes that can get dirty. Hats and water bottles are recommended. The day of the program\, come to the Schramm Education Center and check in and pay at the front desk upon arrival. \nDates and topics for the second half of 2025 are as follows. SUMMARY:Wildcat Hills Homeschool
DESCRIPTION:The Wildcat Hills homeschool programs will meet once a month at 10 a.m. MT at the Wildcat Hills Nature Center. Certified staff will lead various programs each month that will showcase a different theme; focusing on ecosystems\, animals\, adaptations\, and habitats found only in western Nebraska. Activities will focus hands-on learning and observations\, targeted to your students’ learning. \nA valid Nebraska Game and Park Entry Permit will be required for this FREE program. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Staff reserves the right to cancel or reschedule programs due to unforeseen circumstances. \nPlease contact the Nature Center at 308-436-3777 for more information or if you are in need of special accommodations for these programs. \n  \nSeptember 18\, 2025 – Birds of Nebraska\nLearn about Nebraska’s amazing birds through stories\, and hands-on activities.\n\nOctober 16\, 2025 – Bats of Nebraska\nExplore the fascinating world of bats and why they are important to our environment.\n\nNovember 13\, 2025 – Turkeys & Thankfulness\nDiscover wild turkeys and celebrate the season with activities about gratitude and nature.\n\nDecember 18\, 2025 – Evergreens & Winter Wildlife\nFind out how evergreen trees and animals get through Nebraska’s winter months.\n\nJanuary 22\, 2026 – Animal Tracks & Snowy Survival\nInvestigate the clues animals leave behind and how they stay active in the cold.\n\nFebruary 19\, 2026 – Fossils of Nebraska\nTake a look at fossils and learn about the ancient creatures that once lived here.\n\nMarch 19\, 2026 – Signs of Spring & New Life\nSearch for the first signs of spring and see how nature gets ready for warmer days.\n\nApril 16\, 2026 – Pollinators\, Flowers & Earth Day\nDiscover the pollinators and prairie plants that help Nebraska bloom in the spring.
