SUMMARY:Homeschool Hikes
DESCRIPTION:Homeschool Hikes is a monthly nature exploration program hosted by the Schramm Education Center geared towards homeschool families. Each month\, families can join a naturalist for a guided hike on the Schramm Park State Recreation Area hiking trails. During the program\, participants will ask questions\, draw\, observe\, and make discoveries in nature. \nThe cost to participate is $5 per person per program (adult and children are same price). This includes admission to the Schramm Education Center after the program. Schramm Family Pass members participate free. This program is recommended for ages 5 and up. Please register here so we can estimate attendance numbers: https://arcg.is/1HO45W0. \nParticipants should dress in season-appropriate layers and wear closed-toed shoes that can get dirty. Hats and water bottles are recommended. The day of the program\, come to the Schramm Education Center and check in and pay at the front desk upon arrival. \nDates and topics for the second half of 2025 are as follows. DESCRIPTION:The Victorian era (1837-1901) ushered in a unique host of styles and traditions as well as significant social\, economic\, political changes\, and expansion of a class-based society. Some of these traditions will be the highlights of our Victorian Era Living History on October 11-12 at Arbor Lodge. \nDemonstrations and displays will include Victorian Mourning customs; China Painting; the Language of the Fan\, calling cards\, and etiquette; Victorian clothing and makeup; parlor games\, quilting and more. \nSally Jost will entertain guests with Victorian-era piano music on Saturday. Laurie Collingham will play beautiful harp music on Sunday afternoon. \nThe mansion will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday\, with demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Arbor Lodge is a member of the Nebraska City Museum Association\, providing free admission for local residents.

SUMMARY:Birds of a Feather: Fall Migration
DESCRIPTION:Explore the world of birding by joining the Birds of a Feather program at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park’s newly renovated James Family Conservatory and Nature Center. \nThis is a program for birders of all ages and levels. We introduce a different birding topic each session to begin the program. When weather permits\, we will head outdoors for a hike or time in the birding area. The program runs approximately 60-90 minutes and is offered on select Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. on a monthly basis. \nOn October 7\, we’ll wave goodbye to our summer residents and support our migratory birds on their journey. \nThis program is free but a 2025 park entry vehicle permit is required. \nDOWNLOAD THE FULL BIRDS OF A FEATHER SCHEDULE

DESCRIPTION:Mondays in October\, you are invited to join in an evening of firearm education FOR women. \nThe Coaching class is a time for you to practice and advance your firearm skills while receiving individual instruction. The main focus will be on pistol\, but firearms such as rifles\, shotguns\, and muzzleloaders may also be covered in this section depending on student interest. \nAll equipment is provided\, but if you have your own you are welcome to bring it. \nCoaching will be available from 7-8 pm. \nThe sessions will be taught at an indoor facility and space is limited. \n$60/participant (20% discount if you have an annual pass) \nAges 16+ \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:CANCELED - Full Moon Kayak Program at Holmes Lake
DESCRIPTION:Update – This event has been canceled due to inclement weather.  \nJoin Nebraska Game & Parks outdoor educators for a night of exploration at Holmes Lake under the rising Full Moon on Monday\, Oct. 6! \nThis event is free and we welcome you to either borrow a kayak or bring your own! Due to limited kayak supply\, we do require registration. We will provide the kayak\, life vest\, and paddle needed for a successful adventure in the outdoors. \nRegister a Kayak here:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/F37YXK3 \nLet us know you’ll be attending with your own kayak or SUP here:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BPHYN59 \nParticipants will meet at the boat ramp\, beach area and dock on the south side of the lake on Holmes S. Shore Road. This area is right in the middle on the south side of the lake. On Google maps it is identified as Holmes Lake Sailboat Races. \n  \nSafety and basic instruction will be given at the beginning of the event.
