DESCRIPTION:July 28th\, 2025| 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm (CST) Register Here   \nUsing Native Plants: The Why\, What\, and How \nPresenter: Cathy Prettyman\, native plant gardener\, Nebraska Master Naturalist\, Native Planters of Blair\, Pollinator Alliance of the Heartland \nPresenter Bio: I’ve always had a love of nature. As a child I collected butterflies\, kept caterpillars as pets and explored the woods behind our home. I have been birding and gardening for over 30 years. I moved to rural Blair in 2015 and I fell in love with the prairie and learned about its plants. I became a Nebraska Master Naturalist in 2018 with the desire to learn more about our great state and to teach others the importance of the natural world. I am  involved with the PATH\, Pollinator Alliance of the Heartland\, a Nebraska based organization promoting the use of native plants in our landscape. I have helped design\, plant and maintain pollinator gardens at Ft Atkinson State Park in Ft Calhoun. I created and led the charge to plant a pollinator garden at Black Elk-Neihardt park in Blair and with the help of volunteers\, continue to maintain. I am involved with other Blair projects. Last year was the Blair  Main Street revitalization. I helped with selection and design of sidewalk beds using native plants. This year I’m designing native planting beds for the new dog park and an Art Alley project to be installed hopefully this fall.  Another project\, at the historic Florence Mill in Omaha\, is using native plants and trees to educate the public on the uses of the plants. This spring we added a native tall grass bed behind the mill.  \nThis webinar is part of the Master Naturalist Mondays webinar series. Nebraska Master Naturalist is a statewide volunteer conservation program.  Our program recruits\, trains\, manages\, and provides resources for our volunteer naturalist members. We use four strategies to meet Nebraska’s conservation needs\, Habit Stewardship\, Community Science\, Environmental Education & Interpretation\, and Outdoor Recreation & Skills.   \n  \nThis free webinar series will host a variety of presenters and subject matter within these four conservation strategies. DESCRIPTION:Registration for the Outdoor Education Center’s Umbrella Match for handguns on July 22nd & 26th\, 2025. This match will be offered on two dates – attend on whichever day works best for your schedule (Tuesday or Saturday). \nThis is a three-match series open to pistols from all manufacturers. The course of fire will be the same as the GSSF Indoor League Series. \nThis is the second match for this series. Competitors must shoot in two out of the three available matches (June\, July\, August) to be eligible for prizes. August 19th & 23rd are the scheduled dates for the third match. \nCompetitors may shoot up to 6 divisions – Centerfire Stock\, Centerfire Unlimited\, Centerfire Single Stack/Revolver\, Rimfire Stock\, Rimfire Unlimited\, and Rimfire Revolver. For division descriptions\, see below. First entry is $20\, second is $10\, and third through sixth (each) is $5. Secondary entries in the same division are $5 each and only count as additional chances in the prize drawings. \nThis match will follow GSSF’s ‘Original’ course of fire for all Stock and Unlimited divisions and ‘Option E’ for Single Stack/Revolver divisions. For target\, distance\, rounds\, and timing specifications\, see PDF under More Information. \nSchedule: \nTuesday\, July 22nd: Check in available starting at 1 pm; check in closes at 6:30 pm. \nSaturday\, July 26th: Check in available starting at 8 am; check in closes at 11:30 am. \nPreregister to schedule a check in (squadding) time. Competitors will otherwise be squadded according to arrival time. \nPRIZES \nA top prize package that includes a pair of Bluetooth earmuffs\, an Annual Pass – Indoor Firearm Individual\, and range bag will be awarded in a random prize drawing after completion of all three matches. A ticket in the drawing will be generated for every competitor’s first division entry and/or secondary division entry\, once they have shot the same entry for a minimum of two out of the three matches. \nFor each division\, ONLY the first entry shot will be placed in each month’s match result rankings. Secondary division entries are not ranked and cannot replace a primary score. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 8th annual Crofton’s Dam Race at scenic Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area in northeast Nebraska! \nChoose your adventure between three events: A sprint triathlon with kayaking instead of swimming\, a half marathon or 12-mile bike race. Participants must be 14 years or older. The triathlon can be done individually with teams. \nTriathlon – Kayak 1.5 miles on Lewis and Clark Lake\, run 5K through the Weigand campground and bike 12 miles along the rolling hills overlooking the lake. \nBike race – It’s less of a race and more like a 12-mile scenic ride. DESCRIPTION:The Turpin Outdoor Education Center will be hosting a National Field Archery Association (NFAA) Field Hunter Animal (FHA) League at our beautiful outdoor Field Course this summer! \nThe FHA round simulates real-world conditions and challenges archers with varied distances\, target sizes\, and terrain. Each week we will alternate between the Field\, Hunter or Animal round that consists of 14 different targets each. If you haven’t been to our Field course before\, now is a great chance to explore it with other experienced archers! \nThe league will meet at the outdoor shooting tower at 6pm on Thursday evenings for 10 weeks\, starting May 15. From there groups will be determined and set to start at a specific target within the field course. \nIf you can’t make it to league night\, archers can drop-in during the center’s open hours\, collect your scorecard and shoot the round outside on the field course Friday through Tuesday\, sunrise to sunset. Targets will be rotated each week. The final date to turn in scorecards will be July 29. \nParticipants who are new to field archery should join us on Thursday evenings to enjoy shooting with the group\, to learn the ropes\, and gain valuable experience shooting with seasoned archers! \nIndividual prizes will be awarded by drawing ‘tickets’. Tickets are earned by attendance\, top score each week\, most overall improved\, and top overall score. The number of prizes awarded will depend on the number of entries (1 prize per 5 entries). Weekly top score tickets will be awarded for each age class/bow style represented. \nFor participants without personal equipment you may opt to use a rental bow on the Thursday League Nights (or if they are taking a class\, their class bow). \nLeague is open to anyone 8 and up. Previous archery experience required. \nSign up for all 10 weeks at once for $80 (20% discount for annual pass holders)\, or pay at the door for $10 per attendance. \nAGE CLASSES\nEach target station will have distance markers indicating where archers in different classes should shoot. The age classes are:\n• Cub (Under 12)\n• Youth (12-14)\n• Young Adult (15-17)\n• Adult (18+)\nAll archers will shoot from their specific yardage marker that will be marked and labeled at each target on the field course. All the distances are already measured\, marked and verified! \nFor our league – Longbow\, Traditional\, Barebow and Barebow Recurve shoot the same distances as Youth. Olympic Recurve shoots the distances as assigned for the age class they are registered in. \nThe maximum distances for each age division is as follows:\n• Cubs: 30 yards\n• Youth: 50 yards\n• Young Adult and Adult: 80 yards \nFIELD ROUND\nScoring is 5 for the spot\, 4 for the two white rings\, and 3 for the outside black rings. The X is counted as 5 points and used as a tiebreaker. \nEach archer shall shoot 4 arrows at each of the 14-target layouts in a unit. In 10 cases this shall mean shooting the four arrows from a single stake at a single target. In the other four it may mean either shooting one arrow from each of four stakes at a single target or it may mean shooting all four arrows from a single stake but at four separate targets\, or one arrow from each of four stakes at either two (2) or four (4) targets. \nFundamentals of a Field Round \nHUNTER ROUND\nScoring is 5 for the spot\, 4 for the center ring\, and 3 for the outer ring. The X is counted as 5 points and used as a tiebreaker. \nArchers will shoot 4 arrows at each of the 14 target layouts in a unit. In shooting the Hunter round the archer will observe the following shooting positions:\n• 1 marker – Shoot four arrows from the same stake.\n• 2 markers – Shoot two arrows from each stake.\n• 4 markers – Shoot one arrow from each stake. \nFundamentals of a Hunter Round \nANIMAL ROUND \nArchers will shoot a maximum of 3 marked arrows\, in successive order\, and the highest scoring arrow will count. In the case of walkup targets the first arrow must be shot from the farthest stake\, the second arrow from the middle stake\, and the third arrow from the nearest stake. \nScoring dots will NOT be used on animal targets. SUMMARY:Paddleboarding for Beginners at Louisville SRA
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Thursday evening at Louisville State Recreation Area to learn paddleboarding basics as we discuss water safety rules\, paddling technique and give you a chance to try out paddleboarding on the water. Meet at the kiosk by the floating playground entrance. Paddle boards can hold 200 lbs. \nPlease register in advance using this REGISTRATION LINK. This allows us to communicate as needed with participants. Walk-ins are welcome when class size is below capacity. \nProgram Regulations: You must wear and fit in a life jacket to participate. Participants must be 10 years and older to operate a paddle craft. Those under age 10 are subject to instructor’s on-site approval based on life-jacket fit\, skill and/or ability to ride with a guardian while still under craft weight limit. \nThis event is free and open to all ages. A valid state park vehicle permit is required for entry.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for Community Fishing Night at Kramer Lake! \nHosted by Nebraska Game and Parks\, community fishing events are held at venues across the state each spring and summer. \nLook for the Family Fishing Trailer\, where loaner rods and reels\, bait and fishing instruction are available free to participants. Fishing Instructors are also available to provide helpful tips and answer questions. This is the perfect opportunity for people of all ages who have never been fishing or haven’t fished for years to learn. \nAll participants ages 16 and older need a fishing license.
