Then…..JOAD Academy is where you want to be. \nThis Center Shot Archery Academy* class focuses on building skills to become a lifelong archer and enjoy the love of the sport. The focus of this course is to refine the archers shot process and deepen their understanding of what makes a great shot. This class emphasizes deliberate practice and encourages camaraderie through training with teammates and building community within the Center Shot Archery Academy. Whether aiming for personal growth or competitive success\, this class provides the skills and environment to thrive in the sport for years to come. \nPersonal equipment is highly recommended but not required. Are you just starting out in archery and want some instruction? If this is you\, our JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) Skills class is just the thing. \nJOAD Skills is open to students who are new to JOAD or who are still working to advance to JOAD Academy. Is the culprit the profiteering pirate organizing a mutiny? Or\, the saucy sea mistress? Could the perpetrator be the swashbuckling swordsman desperate to win the love of the governor’s daughter? SUMMARY:Living History Weekend at Fort Atkinson
DESCRIPTION:Travel 200 years back in time and experience history on the Great Plains at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park! \nOngoing demonstrations featuring military and civilian life of the 1820s will occur throughout the park. Reenactors will portray fur traders\, coopers\, blacksmiths\, carpenters\, tinsmiths\, weavers and other period trades outside of the fort walls. Other ongoing activities will include carpentry/log hewing at the southeast barrack. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Visitor Center at Ash Hollow State Historical Park on Friday\, Sept. 5 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. to meet Martha Sandweiss\, author of The Girl in the Middle: A Recovered History of the American West. \n  \nSynopsis: In 1868\, celebrated Civil War photgrapher Alexander Gardner posed six federal peace commissioners with a young Native girl wrapped in a blanket. The hand-labeled prints carefully name each of the men\, but the girl is never identified. As The Girl in the Middle goes in search of her\, it draws readers deeper into the entangled lives of the photographer and his subjects. \n  \nAbout the author: \nMartha Sandweiss is a professor emerita of history at Princeton University\, where she is founding director of the Princeton & Slavery Project. She is the award-winning author of many books\, including  Passing Strange: A Gilded Age Tale of Love and Deception across the Color Line and Print the Legend: Photography and the American West. \nThis event is free and open to the public. A valid state park vehicle permit is required for park entry.
