DESCRIPTION:Second Shots Pistol is designed to build on the handgun skills introduced in our FIRST SHOTS course. It’s also a good refresher for those who are years out of practice. \nStudents learn more about ammunition\, loading a magazine\, clearing a pistol and locking the slide back\, and handling malfunctions. Plus\, students get the practical experience of loading and shooting a variety of handgun styles and calibers in the range. \nIn the range\, the basics of stance\, sight picture\, and trigger control are emphasized to maximize success. After completing this class\, participants will be prepared to safely use the range on their own. \nOverall\, Second Shots Pistol teaches the basic knowledge\, skills\, and attitude necessary for owning and using a handgun safely. The small class size allows students to ask questions and receive individual advice. \nCourse covers: \n\nHandgun knowledge & review safe handling\nReview fundamentals of handgun shooting\nAmmunition knowledge\nActual range practice\nA variety of pistols\, ammo\, and targets provided\n\nPlease bring your own eye and ear protection. \nIf you have your own pistol\, you may bring it to use on the range (be sure to bring 50 rounds of ammunition). \nClosed-neck shirts and closed-toe shoes are recommended. \nFor students age 16 and over. SUMMARY:Homeschool Hikes
DESCRIPTION:Homeschool Hikes is a monthly nature exploration program hosted by the Schramm Education Center geared towards homeschool families. Each month\, families can join a naturalist for a guided hike on the Schramm Park State Recreation Area hiking trails. During the program\, participants will ask questions\, draw\, observe\, and make discoveries in nature. \nThe cost to participate is $5 per person per program (adult and children are same price). This includes admission to the Schramm Education Center after the program. Schramm Family Pass members participate free. This program is recommended for ages 5 and up. Please register here so we can estimate attendance numbers: https://arcg.is/1HO45W0. \nParticipants should dress in season-appropriate layers and wear closed-toed shoes that can get dirty. Hats and water bottles are recommended. DESCRIPTION:Homeschool Hikes is a monthly nature exploration program hosted by the Schramm Education Center geared towards homeschool families. Each month\, families can join a naturalist for a guided hike on the Schramm Park State Recreation Area hiking trails. During the program\, participants will ask questions\, draw\, observe\, and make discoveries in nature. \nThe cost to participate is $5 per person per program (adult and children are same price). This includes admission to the Schramm Education Center after the program. Schramm Family Pass members participate free. This program is recommended for ages 5 and up. SUMMARY:Living History Weekend - Victorian Era at Arbor Lodge
DESCRIPTION:The Victorian era (1837-1901) ushered in a unique host of styles and traditions as well as significant social\, economic\, political changes\, and expansion of a class-based society. Some of these traditions will be the highlights of our Victorian Era Living History on October 11-12 at Arbor Lodge. \nDemonstrations and displays will include Victorian Mourning customs; China Painting; the Language of the Fan\, calling cards\, and etiquette; Victorian clothing and makeup; parlor games\, quilting and more. \nSally Jost will entertain guests with Victorian-era piano music on Saturday. Laurie Collingham will play beautiful harp music on Sunday afternoon. \nThe mansion will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday\, with demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Arbor Lodge is a member of the Nebraska City Museum Association\, providing free admission for local residents.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a spooky good time at Ponca State Park for the 26th Annual Hallowfest on Saturdays\, Oct. 11 and Oct. 18! Both weekends\, October 11 and 18 will have daytime education programs like pumpkin archery and critter corner\, cabin decorating contest\, and trick or treating in the campgrounds! Follow Ponca State Park on Facebook for more details. \n  \nActivities\nSaturday\, Oct. 11 – Haunted Hayrack Rides\nReserve your spot to take a haunted evening hayrack ride on Saturday\, Oct. 11. Rides will take place from 6:30 to 11 p.m.\, beginning every five minutes. The public can begin making their reservations on Monday\, October 6 at 9 a.m. by visiting or calling the park office. Reservation-only; no walk-ins will be accepted. \nPayment details: $12 for ages 13 and older\, $9 for ages 3-12\, and no charge for ages 2 and under. Reservations can be made for a maximum of 12 riders or full hayracks (25 people) are $275. Payment is required at the time of your reservation and no refunds are available unless the event is canceled. Payment can be made over the phone with card only. Cash\, card or check will be accepted at the park. Tickets will be emailed and must be shown at the time of the event. \n  \nSaturday\, Oct. 18 – Halloween Fun\n Join us for the famed pumpkin roll\, s’mores\, games\, food\, pumpkin carving\, pet parade and more on Saturday\, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.! Pumpkins will be available for purchase for carving and to send through the obstacle course on pumpkin roll hill for your chance at prizes. Bring your pets for a best-dressed parade. Enjoy the fall activities and beauty of Ponca State Park with your friends and family. \n  \nReminders\nHallowfest hayrack rides are a family event. No alcohol is permitted on the roadways\, parking areas\, or hayracks. Buses are not allowed in the parking area for the event. \nA valid Nebraska state park vehicle permit is required for park entry. Permits can be purchased online or at the park office.
