This virtual program explores how controlled burns work\, why fire is important for plant and animal health\, and the safety measures that make it possible. You’ll learn how fire influences ecosystems\, helps control invasive species\, and supports biodiversity\, all while reducing the risk of larger wildfires.\n\nThis is a free virtual program\, however\, registration is required to attend. Each year\, thousands of volunteers help conduct an early-winter bird census in over 20 countries in the Western Hemisphere between December 14 and January 5. Reports from each of these counts are sent to the Audubon Society\, which compiles the data to help inform researchers about the status of bird populations. When the Christmas Bird Count was first started in the year 1900\, it was held annually on Christmas Day to promote conservation\, hence the name.
