SUMMARY:Schramm Land Stewards - Volunteer Opportunity!
DESCRIPTION:Looking to get outdoors and volunteer? Schramm Park SRA is holding a volunteer opportunity to assist with oak woodland restoration efforts. Join NGPC staff as we walk the prairie to harvest seeds from native prairie plants. Seeds will be used to help with oak savanna restoration efforts. \nWear sturdy\, closed-toed shoes and long pants\, bring water\, and outdoor work gloves. Long sleeves are also recommended. All ages are welcome for this opportunity\, but anyone under the age of 18 must have an accompanying adult. \nRegister in advance if plan to attend so we can estimate head count for work materials: https://arcg.is/H1L5S2. \nMeet in the Schramm Education Center lobby. We’ll kick things off at 9 am with an introduction to the project and then hike to the prairie as a group to get started. DESCRIPTION:Looking to get outdoors and volunteer? Schramm Park SRA is holding a volunteer opportunity to assist with oak woodland restoration efforts. Join NGPC staff as we work on trail maintenance\, brush piling\, and forest floor cleanup along the Hackberry and Red Cedar trails.\nWear sturdy\, closed-toed shoes and long pants\, bring water\, and outdoor work gloves. Long sleeves are also recommended. All ages are welcome for this opportunity\, but anyone under the age of 18 must have an accompanying adult.\nRegister in advance if plan to attend so we can estimate head count for work materials: https://arcg.is/H1L5S2.\nMeet at the park shelter next to Pond A. We’ll kick things off at 9 am with an introduction to the project and then hike up into the forest as a group to get started. Volunteers will need to sign a standard volunteer waiver upon arrival. DESCRIPTION:Calling all community scientists! Join us at Schramm Education Center on Saturday\, June 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. to learn all about monarch conservation during this workshop in partnership with Monarch Joint Venture. \nDOWNLOAD WORKSHOP AGENDA \nDuring this free workshop\, you will explore various methods for assessing monarch habitat\, with a special focus on the Integrated Monarch Monitoring Program (IMMP)—a nationwide protocol designed for tracking monarch and pollinator populations.   \nThe IMMP offers flexible options for monitoring nectar plants\, milkweed\, monarch reproduction\, and adult monarch activity\, while also facilitating data sharing among stakeholders.   \nAdditionally\, we will discuss best management practices for maintaining monarch habitat and address any questions you have about monarch conservation in Nebraska.  \nInterested participants must REGISTER HERE (select the June 14 event). \n  \n

Join us for Little Saplings\, Schramm Education Center’s early childhood nature discovery program. Little Saplings\, a monthly program designed for children ages 2 – 5 and their adult caregiver\, will bring nature themes to life for your child through story time\, sensory activities\, crafts\, and outdoor exploration! \nThe series is held on the first Wednesday of every month from 9 – 10 am and 10 – 11 am.  The cost to participate is $5 per child and $5 per adult per program and includes admission to the Education Center after the program. Schramm Family Pass members participate free. A State Park Vehicle Entry Permit is not required in the Schramm Education Center parking lot. SUMMARY:Monarch & Regal Fritillary Butterfly Survey Training
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested becoming a community scientist and helping conserve Nebraska’s rare\, at-risk butterflies? If so\, please join Nebraska Game and Parks Commission wildlife biologists on Saturday\, May 31 at the Schramm Education Center to learn how to participate in the monarch and regal fritillary community science project. Help us collect valuable data about these at-risk species in the state. \nThe training will open with a presentation at 1 p.m.\, followed by a mock survey. During this extensive training\, you will learn how to walk an assigned transect\, count butterflies\, and assess habitat features. Bring water\, snacks\, notebook\, and a hat for the brief field portion. \nREGISTER HERE \nThis event is free and open to the public. \n

SUMMARY:Homeschool Hikes at Schramm
DESCRIPTION:Homeschool Hikes is a monthly nature exploration program hosted by the Schramm Education Center geared towards homeschool families. Each month\, families can join a naturalist for a guided hike on the Schramm Park State Recreation Area hiking trails. During the program\, participants will ask questions\, draw\, observe\, and make discoveries in nature. Participants will have the opportunity to observe local phenomena\, plants\, and animals while exploring concepts such as patterns\, cause and effect\, and structure and function. \nThe cost to participate is $5 per person per program (adult and children are same price). This includes admission to the Schramm Education Center after the program. Schramm Family Pass members participate free. This program is recommended for ages 5 and up. Please register in advance so we can estimate attendance numbers: https://arcg.is/1HO45W0 . \nParticipants should dress in season-appropriate layers and wear closed-toed shoes that can get dirty. Hats and water bottles are recommended. The day of the program\, come to the Schramm Education Center and check in and pay at the front desk upon arrival. \nDates and topics for the first half of 2025 are as follows. DESCRIPTION:Hop into the fascinating world of Nebraska amphibians with state herpetologist Dennis Ferraro at the Schramm Education Center as we kick off National Amphibian Week. Learn about the diverse amphibians that call Nebraska home and how to conserve them.\n\nThis class will include:-Learn about the many amphibians that call Nebraska home in a lecture-style presentation in the Schramm Education Center Classroom and view live examples of many of Nebraska’s frog\, toad\, and salamander species-Then\, with the supervision of a professional scientist\, learn and practice catching and identifying frogs outdoors at a pond.\n-An optional evening frog calling class may also be planned depending on weather.\n\nThis class is free\, but advance registration is required.
