SUMMARY:Science of...Prairie Dogs
DESCRIPTION:In this last episode of the 2024 Science of Series we will be focusing on Prairie Dogs. Depending on who you talk to they are either an ecological oasis or a nuisance species\, we will touch on both in this final episode. These rodents are sometimes called keystone species as they provide homes and resources for many other organisms in their ecosystem\, but also have the ability to carry the bubonic plague. For this\, we will discuss prairie dog adaptions\, their extremely sophisticated communication strategies and their ability to be such a highly social animal. Don’t miss the last Science Of episode of 2024.\n\nThis is a FREE event\, however\, registration is required to attend.\nPlease use this link to register:\nhhttps://outdoornebraska.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJUkdu2vqDIuGNy_2Feoh0b-UkxaurqoYh-E\n\nPlease contact monica.macoubrie@nebraska.gov for more information or questions. DESCRIPTION:Some of you may be wondering\, what the heck is cyanobacteria? SUMMARY:Nature Printing
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted to create prints using the natural items found right outside your door? Join Nebraska Game and Parks educators as we walk you through two different printing methods for capturing the beauty of Nebraska’s plant and animal species. In this workshop we’ll use the power of the sun to capture plant silhouettes through cyanotype printing on paper. We will also design a nature themed bandana or tea towel using rubber stamps that you will get to carve by hand. This workshop will “leaf” you inspired to head outdoors and get up close and personal with nature! \n  \nRegistration is required. Click here to register. \n  \nWhile free of charge for participants\, this workshop has a limited capacity due to the supplies that are provided. If you are not sure that you can attend\, please wait to register. \n  \nRegistrants for the workshop must be 18 and older. \n  \nIf you have any questions\, please email Grace Gaard at grace.gaard@nebraska.gov.

SUMMARY:Ecoprinting and Dying Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered how people of the past created such vibrant clothing without modern technology? Join Nebraska Game and Parks for an immersive workshop connecting creativity to sustainability! In this hands-on session\, participants will explore multiple ways that plants can be used to dye textiles. We will get the chance to create our own personally dyed bandana’s using the power of the sun to extract the dyes from the plant materials. As well\, we will design our own tote bags with Nebraska plant species through the art of hammering flowers and leaves.\n\n** Due to limited supplies and space\, participation is limited to 20 people**\n\n*******REGISTRATION IS CLOSED*******We have met our maximum number of participants for this event. If registrants are unable to make it\, we may reopen registration closer to the event date.\n\nIf you are not sure that you can attend\, please wait to register.\n\nRegistrants for the workshop must be 18 and older.\n\nWhile free of charge for participants\, this workshop has a limited capacity due to the supplies that are provided. However\, donations to support our host\, Prairie Pines Nature Reserve\, are greatly appreciated and can be made at the event or here https://checkout.square.site/…/QIEAHPCQJKUNWJ7C577WJE77.\n\n*Participants may feel free to bring their own leaves and flower specimens for the ecoprinting station. Some materials will be included\, and time will be given for participants to forage for specimens on sight.\n\nIf you have any questions\, please email Laura Casne at laura.casne@nebraska.gov

SUMMARY:Burrowing Owls: Getting to Know the Critter on the Nebraska Master Naturalist Logo
DESCRIPTION:Burrowing Owls: Getting to Know the Critter on the Nebraska Master Naturalist Logo \nJuly 22nd\, 2024 | 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm (CST) Register Here \nThe Burrowing Owl is one of the most charming bird species in Nebraska (and probably the world). Unfortunately\, it is a species of conservation concern throughout much of its range. In this presentation\, Jason will discuss the life history of Burrowing Owls\, provide some tips for finding and observing them\, and suggest some possible ways to benefit them based on research. \nPresenter: Jason Thiele\, Wildlife Biologist- Nebraska Game and Parks Commission \nPresenter Bio: Jason Thiele is a wildlife biologist with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission whose main focus is wildlife conservation on private lands in Northeast Nebraska. His favorite bird is the Burrowing Owl\, and his second-favorite is the Long-billed Curlew (in case you were wondering). Jason lives near Norfolk with his wife and four sons. \nThis webinar is part of the Master Naturalist Mondays webinar series. Nebraska Master Naturalist is a statewide volunteer conservation program.  Our program recruits\, trains\, manages\, and provides resources for our volunteer naturalist members. We use four strategies to meet Nebraska’s conservation needs\, Habit Stewardship\, Community Science\, Environmental Education & Interpretation\, and Outdoor Recreation & Skills.   \nThis free webinar series will host a variety of presenters and subject matter within these four conservation strategies. Master Naturalist Mondays is a space to connect us to our conservation motivations and inspirations\, and our Naturalist community across the state of Nebraska.  \nAll webinars will be recorded and found HERE. \nFor further details visit our website\, HERE.  \nFor questions regarding this virtual series contact Jamie Bachmann\, jamie.bachmann@nebraska.gov.
