DESCRIPTION:Registration for the Outdoor Education Center’s Free\, Standard and Air Pistol Matches on March 29 -or- April 1\, 2025. This match will be offered on two dates – attend on whichever day works best for your schedule (Saturday or Monday). \nThis is a stand-alone match open to pistols from all manufacturers. See information below about courses of fire. All matches are shot from a one-handed standing position. \nCompetitors may shoot up to three pistol matches – Free (.22) Pistol\, Standard (.22) Pistol\, and/or Air Pistol. For descriptions\, see below. First entry is $20\, second is $10\, and third is $5. This month’s Free and Standard Pistol Matches are official NRA Sectionals with an additional $5 per match competitor fee. A $5 discount will be applied for advance registrations received by Friday\, March 28. \nFor target\, distance\, rounds\, and timing summary\, see below. Complete event rules can be found here. \nSchedule: \nSaturday\, March 29th: Relays available from 8 am to 12 pm. Select relay during registration. \nMonday\, April 1st: Relays available from 1 to 7 pm. Select relay during registration. \nPreregister to schedule a relay time. Competitors will otherwise be squadded according to arrival time and lanes are subject to availability. \nPRIZES \nShirts or hats will be awarded for first place in Free and Standard Pistol matches. \nAdditional prizes may be awarded by random drawing. \nMATCHES \nCompetitors may shoot an official entry in all of the matches. \nFree Pistol\nAlso called 50 Meter Pistol. Open to any .22 caliber rimfire pistol with open sights; see rulebook for complete gun specifications. There is a 15-minute preparation and sighter period prior to record shots. All 60 record shots fired within 1 ¾ hour (105 minute) time limit. Uses target B-11 at 50 feet. \nStandard Pistol\nAlso called 25 Meter Pistol. Open to any .22 caliber rimfire pistols with open sights; see rulebook for complete gun specifications. Five sighters may be fired in a 150 second time limit. This is a 60 shot match divided into 3 stages.\nStage 1: 5 shots in 2.5 minutes [150 seconds]\, 4 times = 20 shots\nStage 2: 5 shots in 20 seconds\, 4 times = 20 shots\nStage 3: 5 shots in 10 seconds\, 4 times = 20 shots\nUses target B-33 at 50 feet. Course of fire takes about 30 minutes to complete. \nAir Pistol\nOpen to .177 caliber air pistols with open sights; see rulebook for complete gun specifications. There is a 15-minute preparation and sighter period prior to record shots. All 60 record shots fired within 1 ½ hour (90 minute) time limit. Uses standard B-40 10 meter target. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Marsh Madness at Ponca State Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Ponca State Park for Marsh Madness! \nHave you ever experienced the whirlwinds of the snow geese? The courtship displays of the pintail? The living blanket of Canadian geese covering the ground? Migration season in the Northeast region on Nebraska is generally at its peak the last week of February and all of March. \nPonca State Park celebrates the migration season with Marsh Madness. Marsh Madness is an opportunity for individuals and families to witness a multitude of migratory waterfowl within the park during guided Avian Adventure Blind Viewing Sessions or unguided bird viewings. Common springtime sightings include Pintail\, teal\, snow geese\, white-fronted geese\, wood ducks\, mallards\, bald eagles\, and more. \nWith Ponca State Park’s location\, adjacent to the Missouri River\, it presents a significant flyway that serves as the feeding\, breeding and staging ground for migratory birds. \nGuided sunrise and sunset waterfowl blind viewings are scheduled every Saturday\, March 1st thru March 29th. DESCRIPTION:Experience the natural wonder of the sharp-tailed grouse mating dance from a grouse viewing blind at Niobrara State Park! This sunrise ritual is an ancient and glorious display from one of Nebraska’s most famous grassland birds. \nReservations\nReserve the viewing blind (free of charge) any time between March 7 and April 20. The large blind holds up to 8 guests. A small popup blind that can hold up to two people will also be available to reserve for photographers with larger equipment. Both blinds are first come\, first serve by reservation only. SUMMARY:Learn to Hunt Safely Weekend
DESCRIPTION:A hunter education focused weekend designed to give women the chance to learn the basics of hunter safety and gain firsthand firearm and archery experience in a fun\, safe environment. Basic hunter education course material will be taught through simulated hunting situations\, live fire exercises\, education and responsibility activities. Workshops will be led by women who are experienced hunters and certified volunteer hunter education instructors. \nCheck-in it 3:00 PM on Friday\, March 28 and weekend concludes on Sunday\, March 30 at 1:00 PM. $125.00 fee includes lodging in a cabin at Platte River State Park\, meals and materials. \nRegistration Terms \n\nPreregistration and fee is due by March 14\, 2025.  Register here\nFemale participants ages 12 years and older\nFemale participants 18 years and younger are required to be accompanied by a participating adult the full weekend.\nAdditional information will be emailed to registered participants.\n\nHunter Education certificate will be given at the end of the weekend.

The living blanket of Canadian geese covering the ground? Migration season in the Northeast region on Nebraska is generally at its peak the last week of February and all of March. \nPonca State Park celebrates the migration season with Marsh Madness. Marsh Madness is an opportunity for individuals and families to witness a multitude of migratory waterfowl within the park during guided Avian Adventure Blind Viewing Sessions or unguided bird viewings. Common springtime sightings include Pintail\, teal\, snow geese\, white-fronted geese\, wood ducks\, mallards\, bald eagles\, and more. \nWith Ponca State Park’s location\, adjacent to the Missouri River\, it presents a significant flyway that serves as the feeding\, breeding and staging ground for migratory birds. \nGuided sunrise and sunset waterfowl blind viewings are scheduled every Saturday\, March 1st thru March 29th. DESCRIPTION:JOAD 3: This class focuses on building skills to become a lifelong archer and enjoy the love of the sport. The focus of this course is to refine the archers shot process and deepen their understanding of what makes a great shot. This class emphasizes deliberate practice and encourages camaraderie through training with teammates and building community within the Center Shot Archery Academy. Whether aiming for personal growth or competitive success\, this class provides the skills and environment to thrive in the sport for years to come. \nJOAD 3 involves many drills\, personal homework and a lot of training to elevate your skills to help you perform at your best! Archers will fine tune their shot process and further develop the physical and mental aspect of the sport of archery. \nThis class is 1½ hours long and is offered on: \nFridays 6:00pm – 7:30pm \nCost is $80 \nStudents are highly encouraged to shoot and train outside of class and attend tournaments and pin shoots with other Center Shot Archery Academy students. \nRegistration is available to students who have previously participated in a JOAD 2 class. \nPersonal equipment is highly recommended but not required. Students are encouraged to begin acquiring their own equipment\, and recommendations will be provided during the course! \nREGISTER HERE

This sunrise ritual is an ancient and glorious display from one of Nebraska’s most famous grassland birds. \nReservations\nReserve the viewing blind (free of charge) any time between March 7 and April 20. The large blind holds up to 8 guests. A small popup blind that can hold up to two people will also be available to reserve for photographers with larger equipment. Both blinds are first come\, first serve by reservation only. SUMMARY:Archery 1 - JOAD: Spring Session 2025
DESCRIPTION:This basic USA Archery class is open to students who are new to JOAD or who are still working to advance to Archery 2. Explore Archery is a recommended prerequisite but not required. \nOur Center Shot Archery Academy* course includes achievement awards\, skill training\, and games with a focus on guiding each student in improvement at their own pace. Each session includes a short lesson and coaching while students are on the line. Archery 1 students have the opportunity to shoot for their next pin during select class sessions. Over the course of the session\, students will advance their scoring skills\, learn about competition etiquette\, and work to achieve the pins and techniques needed to advance to the next level. \nStudents will receive their own copy of the National Training System (NTS) shot cycle\, a stretch band\, and a finger sling. \nNo equipment is required\, but personal equipment is allowed for some portions of the class. \n$65/student \nAges 8 and over. \nPrerequisites: None (Explore Archery recommended) \nREGISTER HERE
