SUMMARY:Dead Ahead Volunteer Training Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The goal of Dead Ahead: Nebraska’s Roadkill Reporting Project is simple but impactful — collect enough statewide data to clearly identify wildlife-crossing hotspots and peak movement trends. Wildlife-vehicle collision data can help us make Nebraska a safer place for wildlife and humans. \nJoin us on July 18th\, 2026 | 10am-12pm at Schramm Education Center for a training workshop that will teach participants how to conduct surveys for this new roadkill reporting project! \nNebraska Game and Parks is looking for dedicated volunteers that can commit to conducting roadkill observation (photo only) surveys every month following the schedule below: \nDue to peak wildlife movement periods\, each site should be surveyed at least twice a month. \n\nFeb-Apr\nSept-Nov\n\nOutside of these peak seasons\, sites should be surveyed a minimum of once a month. \n\nDec-Jan\nMay-Aug\n\nIn this training workshop\, participants will: \n\nLearn about community science\nGain a deeper understanding of road ecology and how it impacts wildlife and humans\nAcquire basic ID skills for common animals in Nebraska\nRun through how to conduct a survey and upload observation data to iNaturalist\nReceive resources and materials\n\nRegistration is required to attend this workshop please REGISTER HERE. Mahoney State Park’s newly renovated James Family Conservatory and Nature Center. \nThis is a program is intended for elementary-aged youth and chaperones. We introduce a different birding topic each session to begin the program. When weather permits\, we will head outdoors for a hike or time in the birding area. The program runs approximately 60-90 minutes and is offered on select Tuesdays at 10 a.m. \nRegistration for these events in required. DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION WILL OPEN SUNDAY\, FEBRUARY 15 @ NOON \nThis exclusively archery-focused camp will take students’ archery skills to the next level. Youth that are new\, intermediate\, or advanced will all find a path that adds to their knowledge and ability. Topics covered include range safety\, equipment knowledge\, scoring\, intro to competition\, stretching and exercises\, and lots of practice time – games included! \n  \nCampers may be dropped off as early as 8:00 am with camp activities starting at 8:30 am. Pick up is from 4:00 – 4:15 pm. \nPlease contact us at 402-471-6141 if you experience difficulty with registration. SUMMARY:Guided Hike at Ponca State Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Ponca State Park for a guided\, beginner-friendly hike with the Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department on Monday\, July 27 at 10 a.m. \nA Ponca State Park Naturalist will lead the hike on Prairie Loop Trail and provide knowledge and history about native grasses\, wildflowers and Ponca State Park. This trail is approximately 1.15 miles in length and loops around a prairie restoration area. Water\, healthy snacks\, and insect repellent wipes will be provided. All ages are welcome! \nWe ask that visitors RSVP by calling 531-519-6360 so we can get a head count for snacks\, etc. \nPlease park at the Riverfront campground and meet at the Prairie Loop Trailhead located to the north of the campground. \nFree park entry for participants – Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department will be sponsoring daily park entry permits for this event only!
