Join us with a favorite beverage as we share the purpose of the Cohort\, what to expect\, and how it has helped women grow their confidence and skills through hunting experiences. \nSummer is the perfect season to prepare for fall hunts\, sharpen outdoor skills\, and connect with other women who enjoy hunting and the outdoors. The Nebraska Ladies Hunting Cohort is a welcoming environment to learn new strategies\, gain confidence\, and share experiences alongside experienced facilitators and guest speakers. Free monthly “huddles” are held on the first Tuesday of each month.  \nWhether you are joining for the first time or returning as a past Cohort participant\, we hope to see you there. \nThe group meets monthly to learn a hunting-related skill. These include firearm safety\, shooting practice\, game processing and outdoor navigation. DESCRIPTION:Second Shots Pistol is designed to build on the handgun skills introduced in our FIRST SHOTS course. It’s also a good refresher for those who are years out of practice. \nStudents learn more about ammunition\, loading a magazine\, clearing a pistol and locking the slide back\, and handling malfunctions. Plus\, students get the practical experience of loading and shooting a variety of handgun styles and calibers in the range. \nIn the range\, the basics of stance\, sight picture\, and trigger control are emphasized to maximize success. After completing this class\, participants will be prepared to safely use the range on their own. \nOverall\, Second Shots Pistol teaches the basic knowledge\, skills\, and attitude necessary for owning and using a handgun safely. The small class size allows students to ask questions and receive individual advice. \nCourse covers: \n\nHandgun knowledge & review safe handling\nReview fundamentals of handgun shooting\nAmmunition knowledge\nActual range practice\nA variety of pistols\, ammo\, and targets provided\n\nPlease bring your own eye and ear protection. \nIf you have your own pistol\, you may bring it to use on the range (be sure to bring 50 rounds of ammunition). \nClosed-neck shirts and closed-toe shoes are recommended. \nFor students age 16 and over. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Missouri River Basin Lewis and Clark Visitor Center for the fourth in a series of guided hikes as a part of this year’s Your Parks Adventure: Trail Trek program! \nJoin the museum’s Executive Director\, Doug Friedli\, for a guided hike along the Tree Trail and walk in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark to learn about their historic expedition through this area and its importance to the growth of the United States and eventually Nebraska. \nThe Tree Trail is one mile long and features an overlook of the Missouri River. The trail has a chipped wood surface and is stroller friendly. \nLiving history reenactors will be on site at 10 a.m. and Joe Starita\, author of I Am a Man\, will give a special presentation at 11 a.m. \nThis program is in partnership with the Nebraska State Historical Society’s WanderNebraska program. \n

DESCRIPTION:Registration for the Outdoor Education Center’s Umbrella Match for handguns on July 7 & 11\, 2026. This match will be offered on two dates – attend on whichever day works best for your schedule (Tuesday or Saturday). \nThis is a three-match series open to pistols from all manufacturers. The course of fire will be the same as the GSSF Indoor League Series. \nThis is the first match for this series. Competitors must shoot in two out of the three available matches (July\, August\, September) to be eligible for prizes. August 4 & 8 and September 8 & 12 are the scheduled dates for the second and third matches. \nCompetitors may shoot up to 6 divisions – Centerfire Stock\, Centerfire Unlimited\, Centerfire Single Stack/Revolver\, Rimfire Stock\, Rimfire Unlimited\, and Rimfire Revolver. For division descriptions\, see below. First entry is $20\, second is $10\, and third through sixth (each) is $5. Secondary entries in the same division are $5 each and only count as additional chances in the prize drawings. \nThis match will follow GSSF’s ‘Original’ course of fire for all Stock and Unlimited divisions and ‘Option E’ for Single Stack/Revolver divisions. The trail will end with a warm fire and fresh baked dessert in a dutch oven. A perfect mix of fresh air\, nature\, and a sweet treat! \nCost: $15 per person (card only) \nPRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED – Spots are limited and you must pre-register and pay by calling the park office at 402-755-2284. PIKEs are currently scheduled every second Saturday from Jan. 10 to Dec. 12\, 2026. \nA valid Nebraska state park vehicle permit is required for entry and can be purchased at the park entrance or online.

Mahoney State Park’s newly renovated James Family Conservatory and Nature Center. \nThis is a program is intended for elementary-aged youth and chaperones. We introduce a different birding topic each session to begin the program. When weather permits\, we will head outdoors for a hike or time in the birding area. The program runs approximately 60-90 minutes and is offered on select Tuesdays at 10 a.m. \nRegistration for these events in required. DESCRIPTION:Registration for the Outdoor Education Center’s Umbrella Match for handguns on July 7 & 11\, 2026. This match will be offered on two dates – attend on whichever day works best for your schedule (Tuesday or Saturday). \nThis is a three-match series open to pistols from all manufacturers. The course of fire will be the same as the GSSF Indoor League Series. \nThis is the first match for this series. Competitors must shoot in two out of the three available matches (July\, August\, September) to be eligible for prizes. August 4 & 8 and September 8 & 12 are the scheduled dates for the second and third matches. \nCompetitors may shoot up to 6 divisions – Centerfire Stock\, Centerfire Unlimited\, Centerfire Single Stack/Revolver\, Rimfire Stock\, Rimfire Unlimited\, and Rimfire Revolver. For division descriptions\, see below. First entry is $20\, second is $10\, and third through sixth (each) is $5. Join us for our introduction to Shotgun/Trap at the Outdoor Heritage Education Complex at Platte River State Park! \nThis class makes getting started in shooting very easy – and\, thanks to NSSF partnership (National Shooting Sports Foundation)\, it’s only $10! \nHere you will receive an educational introduction to the safe and recreational use of shotguns\, individual and group training\, and a rundown in one of the most popular shooting sports\, trap. \nThis seminar offers a small group setting for students aged 8 and over. All equipment is provided\, please do not bring your own firearms or ammunition. . Closed-neck shirts and closed-toe shoes are recommended. Students aged 18 and under must be accompanied by their legal parent/guardian. Payment is due at time of arrival. \nRegistration is required. REGISTER HERE \nA valid Nebraska state park pass is required to enter the park.

SUMMARY:North Platte Pow Wow at Buffalo Bill Ranch
DESCRIPTION:Join us on July 17-19 at Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park in North Platte\, Nebraska for the 7th annual North Platte Pow Wow. Held in honor of Native American veterans and cultural traditions\, the North Platte Pow Wow is a three-day inter-tribal gathering featuring traditional dancing\, drumming\, and honoring ceremonies. Attendees can look forward to vibrant displays of regalia\, rhythmic drumming\, and engaging with artisans. All are welcome to join in remembrance\, learning\, and celebration. \nBring your own lawn chairs\, as bleacher seating is limited! \nActivities: \nThe Grand Entries are a must-see and will be performed Friday at 7 p.m.\, Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.\, and Sunday at 1 p.m.\n-There will be other activities happening over the course of the weekend as well including a special kick off performance\, a tipi rising\,  veteran honoring’s\,  vendors\, and more!\n-Enjoy authentic Native American cuisine\, vendors\, and family-friendly activities.\n  \nAdmission:\n$7 Day Pass or $15 Weekend Pass. All attendees 65+\, under 5\, all veterans\, and active duty military will receive free admission.\n\nNo pets or alcohol are allowed. Overnight camping is available at the site of the Pow Wow.\n\nAnyone parking on the grounds of Buffalo Bill State Historical Park must have a Nebraska Game and Parks Permit.
