DESCRIPTION:4th through 6th graders are invited to attend our Junior Bluebird Program at Ponca State Park during four Tuesday morning sessions: June 2\, 9\, 16 and 23 from 10-11 a.m. Learn why bluebirds matter to our environment\, explore habitats\, monitor bluebird boxes\, and help record observations. Participants will be able to build a bluebird box and get their own copy of “Get to Know Bluebirds”.\n\n\nProgram cost is $15/person (includes all four sessions). Spots are limited.\nMust pre-register by calling the park office at 402-755-2284 or email ngpc.ponca@nebraska.gov. DESCRIPTION:Registration for the Outdoor Education Center’s Umbrella Match for handguns on June 2 and 6. This match will be offered on two dates – attend on whichever day works best for your schedule (Tuesday or Saturday). \nThis is a three-match series open to pistols from all manufacturers. The course of fire will be the same as the GSSF Indoor League Series. \nThis is the FINAL match for this series. Competitors must shoot in two out of the three available matches (April\, May\, June) to be eligible for prizes. \nCompetitors may shoot up to 6 divisions – Centerfire Stock\, Centerfire Unlimited\, Centerfire Single Stack/Revolver\, Rimfire Stock\, Rimfire Unlimited\, and Rimfire Revolver. For division descriptions\, see below. First entry is $20\, second is $10\, and third through sixth (each) is $5. Secondary entries in the same division are $5 each and only count as additional chances in the prize drawings. \nThis match will follow GSSF’s ‘Original’ course of fire for all Stock and Unlimited divisions and ‘Option E’ for Single Stack/Revolver divisions. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an exciting nature walk during a full moon! This family-oriented activity introduces participants to the cultural and natural history of our area trails\, lakes and natural resources.\n\nWe usually walk an average of 1-mile round trip. Each Moon Walk starts with a short introduction to the night’s program\, then we hike to a designated area where we enjoy presentations. Presenters are experts in their field and are from our local community. The evening wraps up with FREE smores! Most Moon Walks last from 1-2 hours. There is limited restroom availability. Dress in layers because the weather at the location may be different than it is in town. Pack water and snacks for the return trip. Bring a flashlight for cloudy nights and don’t forget the bug spray!\n\nPlease note: All Moon Walk times and places are subject to change due to the weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

DESCRIPTION:Have you completed Explore Archery and want to learn more? Do you shoot NASP and want to continue working on your archery during the off season? Are you just starting out in archery and want some instruction? If this is you\, our JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) Skills class is just the thing. \nJOAD Skills is open to students who are new to JOAD or who are still working to advance to JOAD Academy. Explore Archery is a recommended prerequisite but not required. \nThis JOAD/AAP* course includes achievement awards\, skill training\, and games with a focus on guiding each student in improvement at their own pace. Each session includes a short lesson and coaching while students are on the line. JOAD Skills students have the opportunity to shoot for pins during select class sessions. Over the course of the session\, students will advance their scoring skills\, learn about competition etiquette\, and work to achieve the pins and techniques needed to advance to the next level. \nNo equipment is required\, but personal equipment is allowed for some portions of the class. \nClass is 1 hour\n$80/student\nAges 8 and over \nPrerequisites: None (Explore Archery recommended) \nREGISTER HERE

Archers may collect a scorecard and complete the round on their own time. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate National Trails Day with us at Branched Oak State Recreation Area on Saturday\, June 6 from 9 a.m. to noon at Area #7 to volunteer and learn about bike-optimized trail maintenance! \nWe’ll spend the morning clearing debris\, trimming back overgrowth\, and keeping the trail corridor clear and accessible for all park guests. It’s simple work\, but it makes a big difference. Every branch moved\, and every section cleared helps keep the trails safe and fun for all users. No experience necessary. We’ll provide guidance throughout the morning including tool safety\, basic trimming techniques and what to look for when caring for a natural surface\, bike optimized trail system. \n  \nWhat to bring: \n-Work gloves (old bike gloves work well) \n-Closed-toe shoes (basic tennis shoes work great) \n-Lightweight long sleeves and long pants (recommended) \n-Safety glasses or sunglasses can be helpful \n-Baseball cap \n-Water or preferred hydration – a water bottle with nozzle works great for rinsing hands\, eyes\, etc. \n-Loppers\, pruners or hand saws (if you have them\, we’ll bring extras) \n-Bug spray (we’ll have extra on hand) \n-Snacks – we will wrap up by noon \n  \nA valid Nebraska state park vehicle permit is required for park entry. \nIf you have questions about this event\, please contact Jesse Petersen at jesse.petersen@nebraska.gov. \n

DESCRIPTION:Join us at Rock Creek Station State Historical Park for the second of a series of guided hikes as a part of this year’s Your Parks Adventure: Trail Trek program! \nFollow the route of pioneers as they made their way west. Learn about overland travel\, road ranches\, the Pony Express\, and Wild Bill Hickock’s exploits in this historic location. This hike allows participants to cross a reconstructed toll bridge and pass through original wagon ruts that still exist on the landscape.  \nThe trail is approximately one mile long on firm terrain. The hike still start at 1 p.m. Central Time. \nThis activity is free\, but a valid state park vehicle permit is required for park entry. \nThis program is in partnership with the Nebraska State Historical Society’s WanderNebraska program.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for Community Fishing Event at Bowman Lake\, two miles west of Loup City\, during the city’s annual Polish Days weekend! \nHosted by Nebraska Game and Parks\, community fishing events are held at venues across the state each spring and summer. \nLook for the Family Fishing Trailer\, where loaner rods and reels\, bait and fishing instruction are available free to participants. Fishing Instructors are also available to provide helpful tips and answer questions. This is the perfect opportunity for people of all ages who have never been fishing or haven’t fished for years to learn. \nAll participants ages 16 and older need a fishing license.
