DESCRIPTION:Have you completed Explore Archery and want to learn more? Do you shoot NASP and want to continue working on your archery during the off season? Are you just starting out in archery and want some instruction? If this is you\, our JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) Skills class is just the thing. \nJOAD Skills is open to students who are new to JOAD or who are still working to advance to JOAD Academy. Explore Archery is a recommended prerequisite but not required. \nThis JOAD/AAP* course includes achievement awards\, skill training\, and games with a focus on guiding each student in improvement at their own pace. Each session includes a short lesson and coaching while students are on the line. JOAD Skills students have the opportunity to shoot for pins during select class sessions. Over the course of the session\, students will advance their scoring skills\, learn about competition etiquette\, and work to achieve the pins and techniques needed to advance to the next level. \nNo equipment is required\, but personal equipment is allowed for some portions of the class. \nClass is 1 hour\n$80/student\nAges 8 and over \nPrerequisites: None (Explore Archery recommended) \nREGISTER HERE

DESCRIPTION:Add excitement and variety to your range practice by joining our indoor archery league! \nThe league will meet at 7 pm on Thursday evenings for 8 weeks\, February 12 – April 2. If you can’t make it one week\, feel free to drop in during the center’s open hours and shoot the round. All targets must be shot at the Outdoor Education Center. \nEach week will be a different round\, with scores recorded\, and a cumulative score for the series. Target face and distances will accord to each round’s rules for ages and bow style. \nBow styles will be:\nCompound\nBarebow / Traditional / Genesis (not NASP)\nRecurve\nNASP (will shoot a standard NASP round each week – up to 19 years old) \nIndividual prizes will be awarded by drawing ‘tickets’. Tickets are earned by attendance\, top score each week\, most overall improved\, and top overall score. The number of prizes awarded will depend on number of entries (minimum of 1 prize per 5 entries). Weekly top score tickets will be awarded for each bow style represented. Final cumulative scores tickets may involve combined divisions\, depending on participation. \nAges 8 and up. Previous archery experience required. \nParticipants without personal equipment may opt to use a rental bow (or if taking a class\, their class bow). \nSign up for all 8 weeks at once for $60 (20% discount for annual pass holders)\, or pay at the door for $9 per attendance. \nREGISTER NOW \nPlease call us at 402-471-6141 if you experience difficulty with registration.

SUMMARY:Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Learn to Hunt Safely Weekend
DESCRIPTION:A hunter education focused weekend designed to give women the chance to learn the basics of hunter safety and gain firsthand firearm and archery experience in a fun\, safe environment. Basic hunter education course material will be taught through simulated hunting situations\, live fire exercises\, education and responsibility activities. Workshops will be led by women who are experienced hunters and certified volunteer hunter education instructors. \nFemale participants ages 12 years through 18 are required to be accompanied by a participating adult the full weekend. \n$200 Fee includes cabin lodging at Ponca State Park and meals. Note that participants will share a cabin.  Assignments will be made by the event coordinator unless otherwise noted. But if you still want to compete Vegas-style – with a chance to win payouts – we’ve got you covered right here in Lincoln. \nAttend a regional version of the internationally-attended Vegas archery event – our shoot will follow the same rules as much as our space and schedule allow.* This indoor target archery competition will feature a Vegas Round elimination\, shoot-offs\, and the chance to win some dough! \n$30/archer for Open division\, $15/archer for Young Adult and Junior divisions. Young Adult/Junior archers may opt to register for the Open division in order to compete for payouts. \nThis is a preregistration link to reserve your spot. Cash or check payment for your entry is to be made during check-in. \nArcher check-in and walk-in registration is from 3-3:45 pm. Spots for walk-ins are not guaranteed. \nThe Vegas 450 line starts at 4 pm for all competitors. Fifteen ends of 3 arrows (45 arrow total). Junior or Young Adult Barebow\, Recurve\, or Outlaw shoot on 60 cm single-spot face with 10 through 1 scoring. All Open and all Bowhunter or Compound shoot on either the 40 cm Vegas three-spot target face with gold-red-blue (10-9-8-7-6) scoring areas or the 40 cm single-spot face with 10 through 1 scoring. \nShoot-offs among top 4 in each division/style (including Junior & Young Adult) will begin once the Vegas 450 round is complete. \nVertical three-spot targets will be used in shoot-offs for all Open bow styles except Barebow and Outlaw. The living blanket of Canadian geese covering the ground? Migration season in the Northeast region on Nebraska is generally at its peak the last week of February and all of March. \nPonca State Park celebrates the migration season with Marsh Madness. Marsh Madness is an opportunity for individuals and families to witness a multitude of migratory waterfowl within the park during guided Avian Adventure Blind Viewing Sessions or unguided bird viewings. Common springtime sightings include Pintail\, teal\, snow geese\, white-fronted geese\, wood ducks\, mallards\, bald eagles\, and more. \nWith Ponca State Park’s location\, adjacent to the Missouri River\, it presents a significant flyway that serves as the feeding\, breeding and staging ground for migratory birds. \nGuided sunset waterfowl blind viewings are scheduled every Saturday\, March 7 thru March 28. Meet outside the Resource and Education Center. \nRegistration required: Pre-register for the guided tours by calling the park at 402-755-2284\, as space is limited. \nMeeting times\nMarch 7 at 5 p.m. \nMarch 14 at 6 p.m. \nMarch 21 at 6:15 p.m. \nMarch 28 at 6:15 p.m. \n  \nA valid state park vehicle permit is required for park entry.

DESCRIPTION:Second Shots Pistol is designed to build on the handgun skills introduced in our FIRST SHOTS course. It’s also a good refresher for those who are years out of practice. \nStudents learn more about ammunition\, loading a magazine\, clearing a pistol and locking the slide back\, and handling malfunctions. Plus\, students get the practical experience of loading and shooting a variety of handgun styles and calibers in the range. \nIn the range\, the basics of stance\, sight picture\, and trigger control are emphasized to maximize success. After completing this class\, participants will be prepared to safely use the range on their own. \nOverall\, Second Shots Pistol teaches the basic knowledge\, skills\, and attitude necessary for owning and using a handgun safely. DESCRIPTION:Add excitement and variety to your range practice by joining our indoor archery league! \nThe league will meet at 7 pm on Thursday evenings for 8 weeks\, February 12 – April 2. If you can’t make it one week\, feel free to drop in during the center’s open hours and shoot the round. All targets must be shot at the Outdoor Education Center. \nEach week will be a different round\, with scores recorded\, and a cumulative score for the series. Target face and distances will accord to each round’s rules for ages and bow style. \nBow styles will be:\nCompound\nBarebow / Traditional / Genesis (not NASP)\nRecurve\nNASP (will shoot a standard NASP round each week – up to 19 years old) \nIndividual prizes will be awarded by drawing ‘tickets’. Tickets are earned by attendance\, top score each week\, most overall improved\, and top overall score. The number of prizes awarded will depend on number of entries (minimum of 1 prize per 5 entries). Weekly top score tickets will be awarded for each bow style represented. Final cumulative scores tickets may involve combined divisions\, depending on participation. \nAges 8 and up. DESCRIPTION:Join us at Ponca State Park for Marsh Madness! \nHave you ever experienced the whirlwinds of the snow geese? The courtship displays of the pintail? The living blanket of Canadian geese covering the ground? Migration season in the Northeast region on Nebraska is generally at its peak the last week of February and all of March. \nPonca State Park celebrates the migration season with Marsh Madness. Marsh Madness is an opportunity for individuals and families to witness a multitude of migratory waterfowl within the park during guided Avian Adventure Blind Viewing Sessions or unguided bird viewings. Common springtime sightings include Pintail\, teal\, snow geese\, white-fronted geese\, wood ducks\, mallards\, bald eagles\, and more. \nWith Ponca State Park’s location\, adjacent to the Missouri River\, it presents a significant flyway that serves as the feeding\, breeding and staging ground for migratory birds. \nGuided sunset waterfowl blind viewings are scheduled every Saturday\, March 7 thru March 28.
