DESCRIPTION:Second Shots Pistol is designed to build on the handgun skills introduced in our FIRST SHOTS course. It’s also a good refresher for those who are years out of practice. \nStudents learn more about ammunition\, loading a magazine\, clearing a pistol and locking the slide back\, and handling malfunctions. Plus\, students get the practical experience of loading and shooting a variety of handgun styles and calibers in the range. \nIn the range\, the basics of stance\, sight picture\, and trigger control are emphasized to maximize success. After completing this class\, participants will be prepared to safely use the range on their own. \nOverall\, Second Shots Pistol teaches the basic knowledge\, skills\, and attitude necessary for owning and using a handgun safely. The small class size allows students to ask questions and receive individual advice. \nCourse covers: \n\nHandgun knowledge & review safe handling\nReview fundamentals of handgun shooting\nAmmunition knowledge\nActual range practice\nA variety of pistols\, ammo\, and targets provided\n\nPlease bring your own eye and ear protection. \nIf you have your own pistol\, you may bring it to use on the range (be sure to bring 50 rounds of ammunition). \nClosed-neck shirts and closed-toe shoes are recommended. \nFor students age 16 and over. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Turpin Outdoor Education Center’s Pistol Matches on April 18\, 2026. \nThis stand-alone match is open to pistols from all manufacturers. All matches are shot from a one-handed standing position. See information below about courses of fire. \nThis month’s matches will be: \nGallery Precision Pistol Sectional \nCMP Air Pistol \nCompetitors may shoot one\, or two matches. First entry is $25\, and the second is $12. This month’s Gallery Precision Pistol Match is an official NRA Sectional with an additional $5 competitor fee. \nFor target\, distance\, rounds\, and timing summary\, see below. Complete event rules can be found here. \nSCHEDULE \nSaturday\, April 18: Relays available for Gallery Precision Pistol\, and CMP Air Pistol from 8 am to 12 pm. Select relay during registration. \nPRIZES will be awarded for first place in Gallery Precision Pistol\, and CMP Air Pistol matches. Additional prizes may be awarded by random drawing. \nMATCHES \nCompetitors may shoot an official entry in all of the matches. \nGallery Precision Pistol \nOpen to .22 caliber rimfire pistols with iron/open sight or optical sights (red dot\, pistol scope\, reflex\, holographic\, etc.) \nThis is a 90 shot match \nSlow Fire: 10 shots in 10 minutes\, 2 times = 20 shots \nTimed Fire: 5 shots in 20 seconds\, 2 strings per target\, 2 times = 20 shots \nRapid Fire: 5 shots in 10 seconds\, 2 strings per target\, 2 times = 20 shots \nNational Match Course \nSlow Fire: 10 shots in 10 minutes \nTimed Fire: 10 shots in 20 seconds\, 2 times = 10 \nRapid Fire: 5 shots in 10 seconds\, 2 times = 10 \n1) Uses standard B-2 target for slow fire\, and B-3 target for timed and rapid fire \nCMP Air Pistol \nOpen to .177 caliber air pistols with open sights; see rulebook for complete gun specifications. There is a 15-minute preparation and sighter period prior to record shots. All 60 record shots fired within 1 ½ hour (90 minute) time limit. Uses standard B-40 10 meter target. \nREGISTER HERE

Rounds rotate weekly to provide experience across multiple formats\, helping archers prepare for competition or simply enjoy shooting with others.\n\nLeague nights are held on Thursdays at 6:00 PM\, beginning April 30. Participants will meet at the outdoor shooting tower before heading out in assigned groups to their starting targets on the field course.\n\nIf you are unable to attend Thursday league nights\, weekly targets will remain set for drop-in shooting during open hours (Friday through Tuesday\, sunrise to sunset). Archers may collect a scorecard and complete the round on their own time. DESCRIPTION:Become a certified Youth Fishing Instructor by attending a class at the Turpin Outdoor Education Center in Lincoln on Sunday\, May 10 from 2 to 5 p.m. \nYouth Fishing Instructors are part of the Youth Fishing Program\, a statewide team of volunteers and Game and Parks staff who host educational fishing events. \nWorkshop participants will receive training and tools to conduct youth fishing clinics. These volunteers will have access to Game and Parks’ loaner fishing equipment and educational materials for events. They also will receive program incentives. Instructors are encouraged to volunteer for such Game and Parks programs as Community Fishing Nights and the Outdoor Expos. \nRegister: Youth Fishing Instructor Class \nContact Larry Pape at larry.pape@nebraska.gov for more information.
