DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Turpin Outdoor Education Center’s Pistol Matches on January 24\, 2026. \nThis stand-alone match is open to pistols from all manufacturers. All matches are shot from a one-handed standing position. See information below about courses of fire. \nThis month’s matches will be:\nFree pistol (.22)\nStandard pistol (.22)\nCMP Air Pistol \nCompetitors may shoot one\, two or all three matches. First entry is $25\, second is $12\, and third is $10. \nFor target\, distance\, rounds\, and timing summary\, see below. Complete event rules can be found here. \nSCHEDULE\nSaturday\, January 24th: Relays available for Free Pistol\, Standard Pistol\, and CMP Air Pistol from 8 am to 12 pm. Select relay during registration. \nPRIZES will be awarded for first place in Free Pistol\, Standard Pistol\, or CMP Air Pistol matches. Additional prizes may be awarded by random drawing. \nMATCHES\nCompetitors may shoot an official entry in all of the matches. \nFree Pistol\nAlso called 50 Meter Pistol. Open to any .22 caliber rimfire pistol with open sights; see rulebook for complete gun specifications. There is a 15-minute preparation and sighter period prior to record shots. This is a 60 shot match divided into 3 stages.\nStage 1: 5 shots in 2.5 minutes [150 seconds]\, 4 times = 20 shots\nStage 2: 5 shots in 20 seconds\, 4 times = 20 shots\nStage 3: 5 shots in 10 seconds\, 4 times = 20 shots\nUses target B-33 at 50 feet. Course of fire takes about 30 minutes to complete. \nCMP Air Pistol \nOpen to .177 caliber air pistols with open sights; see rulebook for complete gun specifications. DESCRIPTION:Due to poor ice conditions and a forecast for dangerously cold weather on the day of the event\, this ice fishing event has been cancelled. There will not be a makeup date. \nLearn the basics of ice fishing or pick up a few new tips from experienced anglers. \nOn Saturday\, Jan. 24 from 2-4 p.m. Central Time\, Nebraska Game and Parks and the Nebraska Fish and Game Association will host an on-ice event at Omaha’s Flanagan Lake (near boat ramp).  \nLimited loaner equipment will be available on a first-come\, first-serve basis. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate World Wetlands Day with a winter hike at Frank Shoemaker Marsh on Sunday\, Feb. 1 from 4:45 to 6:15 p.m. as the Snow Moon rises! Connect with nature through a guided hike and prompts to reflect by creating sketches and writings about the wetlands while observing the February full moon. Wetland experts will also be there to help you learn about wetland ecology. \nThe event is free. Registration is appreciated and encouraged so we can ensure we have enough materials for everyone and can communicate with registrants in the event of changes due to weather. \nREGISTER HERE \nArt materials and paper will be available. You are welcome to bring your own materials and a journal. \nThere is limited space in the parking lot. And whether rifle shooting turns out to be your thing or not\, students walk away with the ability to be safe and have fun wherever adventure takes them next. \nAll equipment provided.
