SUMMARY:Southeast District Birding Day at Meridian WMA
DESCRIPTION:Join us during Nebraska Bird Month for a birding day at Meridian Wildlife Management Area in southeast Nebraska! \nWe will meet at 7:30 a.m. at the Meridian WMA shop at 7176 River Rd\, Alexandria\, NE. From there\, we will divide into groups and hike different areas looking for any birds\, including grassland\, woodland and riverine species. \nBirders will reconvene by 11 a.m. at the Meridian WMA shop to list species observed and to hear from speakers who will discuss Meridian WMA management and private lands habitat support. \nLunch: Participants should bring their own lunch and bag chair. A microwave and grill will be available. \nSpeakers:\nRick Souerdyke – Meridian WMA and surrounding private landowners collaborated on a joint prescribed fire totaling 895 acres in early March following several years of oak savanna restoration efforts on the WMA. \nMichele Fuhrer Hurt – Private lands habitat support \nWhat to bring:\nBinoculars\, bird identification guide\, camera\, insect repellent\, waterproof boots\, and clothing appropriate for steep terrain and the weather. Learn the process of tagging monarchs around the pollinator garden. \nOctober 14 – Dutch Oven Cooking: Gather around the fire as we make White Chicken Chili\, Venison Chili\, and Apple Cider Cinnamon Rolls. SUMMARY:Summer Field Hunter Animal League
DESCRIPTION:The Turpin Outdoor Education Center will be hosting a National Field Archery Association (NFAA) Field Hunter Animal (FHA) League at our beautiful outdoor Field Course this summer! \nThe FHA round simulates real-world conditions and challenges archers with varied distances\, target sizes\, and terrain. Each week we will alternate between the Field\, Hunter or Animal round that consists of 14 different targets each. If you haven’t been to our Field course before\, now is a great chance to explore it with other experienced archers! \nThe league will meet at the outdoor shooting tower at 6pm on Thursday evenings for 10 weeks\, starting May 15. From there groups will be determined and set to start at a specific target within the field course. \nIf you can’t make it to league night\, archers can drop-in during the center’s open hours\, collect your scorecard and shoot the round outside on the field course Friday through Tuesday\, sunrise to sunset. Targets will be rotated each week. The final date to turn in scorecards will be July 29. \nParticipants who are new to field archery should join us on Thursday evenings to enjoy shooting with the group\, to learn the ropes\, and gain valuable experience shooting with seasoned archers! \nIndividual prizes will be awarded by drawing ‘tickets’. Tickets are earned by attendance\, top score each week\, most overall improved\, and top overall score. The number of prizes awarded will depend on the number of entries (1 prize per 5 entries). Weekly top score tickets will be awarded for each age class/bow style represented. \nFor participants without personal equipment you may opt to use a rental bow on the Thursday League Nights (or if they are taking a class\, their class bow). \nLeague is open to anyone 8 and up. Previous archery experience required. \nSign up for all 10 weeks at once for $80 (20% discount for annual pass holders)\, or pay at the door for $10 per attendance. \nAGE CLASSES\nEach target station will have distance markers indicating where archers in different classes should shoot. The age classes are:\n• Cub (Under 12)\n• Youth (12-14)\n• Young Adult (15-17)\n• Adult (18+)\nAll archers will shoot from their specific yardage marker that will be marked and labeled at each target on the field course. All the distances are already measured\, marked and verified! \nFor our league – Longbow\, Traditional\, Barebow and Barebow Recurve shoot the same distances as Youth. DESCRIPTION:Mondays in May\, you are invited to join in an evening of archery FOR women\, taught by women. \nChoose from a four-week intro class or ‘next-level’ practice and coaching section\, depending on your comfort with the material. \nThe intro section features a lesson and time on the archery range practicing with a bow each week. Class goes from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. \nThe ‘next-level’ practice and coaching section is a time for women to hone their archery skills and receive individual coaching. Coaching will be available from 5-6:30 pm and has a flexible arrival time. \nThe sessions will be taught at an indoor archery facility and space is limited. \n$30/participant\, ages 16+ \nAll equipment is provided\, but if you have your own you are welcome to bring it. \nNOTE: This will be a three week class. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Schramm Land Stewards - Volunteer Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:Looking to get outdoors and volunteer? Schramm Park SRA is holding a volunteer opportunity to assist with oak woodland restoration efforts. Join NGPC staff as we work on planting oak seedlings\, brush piling and forest floor cleanup along the Hackberry and Red Cedar trail.\nWear sturdy\, closed-toed shoes\, bring water\, and outdoor work gloves. Long sleeves are also recommended. All ages are welcome for this opportunity\, but anyone under the age of 18 must have an accompanying adult.\nMeet at the park shelter next to Pond A. We’ll kick things off at 9 am with an introduction to the project and then hike up into the forest as a group to get started. Volunteers will need to sign a standard volunteer waiver upon arrival. SUMMARY:Homeschool Hikes at Schramm
DESCRIPTION:Homeschool Hikes is a monthly nature exploration program hosted by the Schramm Education Center geared towards homeschool families. Each month\, families can join a naturalist for a guided hike on the Schramm Park State Recreation Area hiking trails. During the program\, participants will ask questions\, draw\, observe\, and make discoveries in nature. Participants will have the opportunity to observe local phenomena\, plants\, and animals while exploring concepts such as patterns\, cause and effect\, and structure and function. \nThe cost to participate is $5 per person per program (adult and children are same price). This includes admission to the Schramm Education Center after the program. Schramm Family Pass members participate free. This program is recommended for ages 5 and up. Please register in advance so we can estimate attendance numbers: https://arcg.is/1HO45W0 . \nParticipants should dress in season-appropriate layers and wear closed-toed shoes that can get dirty. Hats and water bottles are recommended.
