SUMMARY:Birds of a Feather: Owls of Nebraska
DESCRIPTION:Explore the world of birding by joining the Birds of a Feather program at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park’s newly renovated James Family Conservatory and Nature Center. \nThis is a program for birders of all ages and levels. We introduce a different birding topic each session to begin the program. When weather permits\, we will head outdoors for a hike or time in the birding area. The program runs approximately 60-90 minutes and is offered on select Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. on a monthly basis. \nOn December 2\, learn more about the nine species of owls that can be found in Nebraska\, then dissect an owl pellet and find out what was for supper! \nThis program is free but a 2025 park entry vehicle permit is required.

Whether aiming for personal growth or competitive success\, this class provides the skills and environment to thrive in the sport for years to come. \nPersonal equipment is highly recommended but not required. Each session includes a short lesson and coaching while students are on the line. JOAD Skills students have the opportunity to shoot for pins during select class sessions. DESCRIPTION:Hunters and landowners are encouraged to offer their feedback on big game issues during the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s public information meetings this winter. \nThese 2½ hour meetings\, which are scheduled in each Game and Parks district. All in-person meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m. local time. \nThe first half hour will be an open house with time to talk with wildlife biologists\, conservation officers and staff. Biologists will make a presentation at 7 p.m. and discuss big game harvest results and season structure. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the sounds of the forest on a crisp winter night and join Schramm naturalists to hike the forest after nightfall.\n\nMeet at the pond trailhead and bring a flashlight or head lamp. We will hike for about an hour and will walk about 2 miles\, from the Pond Trailhead along the Hackberry Trail to the full Red Cedar Trail loop. There are stairs at the trailhead and one spot along the hike where there will be an elevation change and we will walk up a hill.\nThis is a free program\, but a State Park Vehicle Entry Permit is required. If you do not already have one\, a daily park permit can be purchased at the self-service box at the park entrance that night with exact cash or check ($7 for Nebraska licensed vehicles; $14 for non-Nebraska licensed vehicles).

SUMMARY:Winterfest at Ponca State Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Ponca State Park for our annual Winterfest!\n\nWe’ll kick off day with our Naturalist activities. At high noon\, guests can participate in the Fruitcake Fling\, where guest throw wildlife-friendly fruitcakes competing for distance. Prizes will be awarded for the longest throws in four age categories.\n\nThe day with conclude with lighted hayrack rides beginning at 4:40 p.m. Hot cocoa and cookies will be served at the Resource and Education Center. Guests can sign up for hayrack rides while at the park. The pickup and drop off location is the Park Office/Resource and Education Center. Rides are free and take approximately 20 minutes.\n\nAll activities are free during this outdoor family tradition. A valid state park vehicle permit is required for entry.
