DESCRIPTION:Travel 200 years back in time and experience history on the Great Plains at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park! \nLiving History events occur from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the first weekend of each month between May and October. Ongoing demonstrations featuring military and civilian life of the 1820s will occur throughout the park. Reenactors portray fur traders\, coopers\, blacksmiths\, carpenters\, tinsmiths\, weavers and other period trades. There will also be potato planting demonstrations. DESCRIPTION:Have you completed Explore Archery and want to learn more? Do you shoot NASP and want to continue working on your archery during the off season? Are you just starting out in archery and want some instruction? If this is you\, our JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) Skills class is just the thing. \nJOAD Skills is open to students who are new to JOAD or who are still working to advance to JOAD Academy. Explore Archery is a recommended prerequisite but not required. \nThis JOAD/AAP* course includes achievement awards\, skill training\, and games with a focus on guiding each student in improvement at their own pace. Each session includes a short lesson and coaching while students are on the line. JOAD Skills students have the opportunity to shoot for pins during select class sessions. Yard signs will direct you to the meeting area. Participants will walk to the site from the county road. Those with four wheel drive or high-clearance vehicles may be permitted to drive closer. Total round trip walk is about one half mile on uneven ground. \nThis program is in partnership with the Nebraska State Historical Society’s WanderNebraska program.

DESCRIPTION:Take a step back in time this June 6 and 13 and explore Rock Creek Station — a place where road ranches served pioneers along the Oregon-California Trail\, Pony Express riders carried mail across the West\, and Wild Bill Hickok began a legendary career as gunfighter! \nWatch living history demonstrations\, Pony Express rider relays\, and family-friendly activities on the historic ranches between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. The Visitor Center also will be open during the event. \nA freewill donation lunch of pulled pork sandwiches will be hosted by the Friends of Rock Creek Station from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. \nA buffalo stew cookout will be at 7 p.m. at the historic West Ranch. Advance tickets for the cookout will be on sale at the park’s Visitor Center and at the Fairbury Chamber of Commerce office\, 518 E St\, Fairbury. Cost for adults is $10 and is $6 for those age 13 and under $6. \nEnjoy entertainment from Nebraska Humanities speaker Dan Holtz immediately following the cookout as he presents Nebraska Through Song and Story\, where he interweaves songs accompanied on guitar and harmonica\, with excerpts from works by classic Nebraska authors. In a narrative spanning from 1850 to 1904\, it tells the stories of the people who came to and through early Nebraska\, the pioneers who crossed the overland trails\, the settlers\, and the Native Americans. Conservation strategies to address this issue will also be discussed. \nPresenter: Rick Schneider\, Retired\, Volunteer for Conservation\, Board Member\, Audubon Spring Creek Prairie \nPresenter Bio: Rick is retired from the NE Game and Parks Commission where he served as the head of the Nebraska Natural Heritage Program from 1996-2019. He was also the co-chair of the Nebraska Natural Legacy Project from 2002-2019. Prior to working for the Commission\, Rick worked as an ecologist for The Nature Conservancy in Minnesota and the U.S. Forest Service in Montana. \nThis webinar is part of the Master Naturalist Mondays webinar series. Nebraska Master Naturalist is a statewide volunteer conservation program.  Our program recruits\, trains\, manages\, and provides resources for our volunteer naturalist members. We use four strategies to meet Nebraska’s conservation needs\, Habit Stewardship\, Community Science\, Environmental Education & Interpretation\, and Outdoor Recreation & Skills.   \nThis free webinar series will host a variety of presenters and subject matter within these four conservation strategies.
