DESCRIPTION:Registration is for our Birds of a Feather series is FULL! Those wanting to be on a waiting list can fill out the registration and we will contact you should an opening become available.  \nGet ready to go birding by participating in the Birds of a Feather program at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park’s newly renovated James Family Conservatory and Nature Center. \nThis is a program is intended for elementary-aged youth and chaperones. We introduce a different birding topic each session to begin the program. When weather permits\, we will head outdoors for a hike or time in the birding area. The program runs approximately 60-90 minutes and is offered on select Tuesdays at 10 a.m. \nRegistration for these events in required. REGISTER HERE \nEvent Schedule\nMarch 3 – Beginner Birding: Learn how to be a birder as we explore beginner birding topics: identification\, tools and resources\, where to go birding and more. \nMarch 24 – Bird Mist-Netting: Observe the process of mist-netting\, a tool used to catch and band birds for research. Get up close and learn about local bird species. \nMarch 31 – Spring Nesting: Discover a variety of nests that birds make and consider why they build them as they do and how they are adapted for this task. \nApril 7 – Feathers\, Forms and Functions: Consider how the form of a bird (beak\, feathers\, feet) relates to the functions they do to survive and thrive in the wild. \nApril 21 – Raptors: Discover the differences between hawks\, eagles\, owls and more as soar in and study their senses\, diet and adaptations. \nJuly 7 – Beginner Birding: Learn how to be a birder as we explore beginner birding topics: identification\, tools and resources\, where to go birding and more. \nJuly 14 – Bird Mist-Netting: Observe the process of mist-netting\, a tool used to catch and band birds for research. DESCRIPTION:Looking to get outdoors and volunteer? Schramm Park SRA holds regular volunteer opportunities to assist with oak woodland restoration efforts. Join NGPC staff as we work on activities such as invasive species removal\, seed collection\, trail maintenance\, brush piling\, and tree planting.\nRegister in advance if plan to attend so we can estimate head count for work materials: https://arcg.is/H1L5S2\nWear sturdy\, closed-toed shoes and long pants\, bring water\, and outdoor work/garden gloves. Long sleeves are also recommended. All ages are welcome for this opportunity\, but anyone under the age of 18 must have an accompanying adult.\nMeet at the park shelter next to Pond A. We’ll kick things off with an introduction to the project at the posted start time and then get started. Volunteers will need to sign a standard volunteer waiver upon arrival. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\nLEAGUE OVERVIEW\n\nThe FHA and 3D rounds simulate real-world shooting conditions\, challenging archers with varied distances\, target sizes\, and terrain. Rounds rotate weekly to provide experience across multiple formats\, helping archers prepare for competition or simply enjoy shooting with others.\n\nLeague nights are held on Thursdays at 6:00 PM\, beginning April 30. Participants will meet at the outdoor shooting tower before heading out in assigned groups to their starting targets on the field course.\n\nIf you are unable to attend Thursday league nights\, weekly targets will remain set for drop-in shooting during open hours (Friday through Tuesday\, sunrise to sunset). Archers may collect a scorecard and complete the round on their own time. DESCRIPTION:Become a certified Youth Fishing Instructor by attending a class at the Wildcat Hills Nature Center in Gering on Thursday\, April 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. Mountain Time. \nYouth Fishing Instructors are part of the Youth Fishing Program\, a statewide team of volunteers and Game and Parks staff who host educational fishing events. \nWorkshop participants will receive training and tools to conduct youth fishing clinics. These volunteers will have access to Game and Parks’ loaner fishing equipment and educational materials for events. They also will receive program incentives. This sunrise ritual is an ancient and glorious display from one of Nebraska’s most famous grassland birds. \nReservations\nReserve the viewing blind (free of charge) any time between March 1 and May 1\, with peak viewing between March 7 and April 20. The large trailer blind can hold up to 12 guests (up to 10 comfortably).
