SUMMARY:"George Custer and The Great Plains: History\, Landscape and Legacy" by Jeff Barnes
DESCRIPTION:Join Jeff Barnes\, Humanities Nebraska speaker and author of “The Great Plains Guide to Custer” on Saturday\, Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. at Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park to learn about George Custer. Barnes will discuss the nine years of George Armstrong Custer between his First Stand in Nebraska in 1867 to his Last Stand at Little Bighorn in 1876. \nThis was a period of great transition on the Great Plains and for better or worse\, Custer helped bring it\, implement it\, and end it. Custer both loved and was awestruck by our Great Plains. Barnes will cover the historical events of the general’s time here and share images from following Custer’s trail for nearly forty years from both the ground and the air.  \nHumanities Nebraska (HN) provides major funding for this program. HN receives support from the National Endowment for the Humanities\, the Nebraska State Legislature\, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment\, and private donations. \nHistorical Buildings & Gift Shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is required to tour the historical buildings. \nA valid state park vehicle permit is required for park entry.
