SUMMARY:Wildcat Hills Homeschool
DESCRIPTION:The Wildcat Hills homeschool programs will meet once a month at 10 a.m. MT at the Wildcat Hills Nature Center. Certified staff will lead various programs each month that will showcase a different theme; focusing on ecosystems\, animals\, adaptations\, and habitats found only in western Nebraska. Activities will focus hands-on learning and observations\, targeted to your students’ learning. \nA valid Nebraska Game and Park Entry Permit will be required for this FREE program. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Staff reserves the right to cancel or reschedule programs due to unforeseen circumstances. \nPlease contact the Nature Center at 308-436-3777 for more information or if you are in need of special accommodations for these programs. \n  \nSeptember 18\, 2025 – Birds of Nebraska\nLearn about Nebraska’s amazing birds through stories\, and hands-on activities.\n\nOctober 16\, 2025 – Bats of Nebraska\nExplore the fascinating world of bats and why they are important to our environment.\n\nNovember 13\, 2025 – Turkeys & Thankfulness\nDiscover wild turkeys and celebrate the season with activities about gratitude and nature.\n\nDecember 18\, 2025 – Evergreens & Winter Wildlife\nFind out how evergreen trees and animals get through Nebraska’s winter months.\n\nJanuary 22\, 2026 – Animal Tracks & Snowy Survival\nInvestigate the clues animals leave behind and how they stay active in the cold.\n\nFebruary 19\, 2026 – Fossils of Nebraska\nTake a look at fossils and learn about the ancient creatures that once lived here.\n\nMarch 19\, 2026 – Signs of Spring & New Life\nSearch for the first signs of spring and see how nature gets ready for warmer days.\n\nApril 16\, 2026 – Pollinators\, Flowers & Earth Day\nDiscover the pollinators and prairie plants that help Nebraska bloom in the spring.

SUMMARY:Youth Fishing Instructor Certification Class at Wildcat Hills Nature Center
DESCRIPTION:Become a certified Youth Fishing Instructor by attending a class at the Wildcat Hills Nature Center in Gering on Thursday\, April 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. Mountain Time. \nYouth Fishing Instructors are part of the Youth Fishing Program\, a statewide team of volunteers and Game and Parks staff who host educational fishing events. \nWorkshop participants will receive training and tools to conduct youth fishing clinics. These volunteers will have access to Game and Parks’ loaner fishing equipment and educational materials for events. They also will receive program incentives. Instructors are encouraged to volunteer for such Game and Parks programs as Community Fishing Nights and the Outdoor Expos. \nRegister: Youth Fishing Instructor Class \nContact Larry Pape at larry.pape@nebraska.gov for more information. \nA valid state park vehicle permit is required for entry.
