DESCRIPTION:Hop into the fascinating world of Nebraska amphibians with state herpetologist Dennis Ferraro at the Schramm Education Center as we kick off National Amphibian Week. Learn about the diverse amphibians that call Nebraska home and how to conserve them.\n\nThis class will include:-Learn about the many amphibians that call Nebraska home in a lecture-style presentation in the Schramm Education Center Classroom and view live examples of many of Nebraska’s frog\, toad\, and salamander species-Then\, with the supervision of a professional scientist\, learn and practice catching and identifying frogs outdoors at a pond.\n-An optional evening frog calling class may also be planned depending on weather.\n\nThis class is free\, but advance registration is required. Register here: https://arcg.is/1HHW9D2 or email jennifer.ruyle@nebraska.gov. Registration is limited to 25 people. This class is recommended for ages 8+ due to the lecture activity. Participants should dress for the weather forecast and wear closed-toed shoes that can get dirty.

SUMMARY:Homeschool Hikes at Schramm
DESCRIPTION:Homeschool Hikes is a monthly nature exploration program hosted by the Schramm Education Center geared towards homeschool families. Each month\, families can join a naturalist for a guided hike on the Schramm Park State Recreation Area hiking trails. During the program\, participants will ask questions\, draw\, observe\, and make discoveries in nature. Participants will have the opportunity to observe local phenomena\, plants\, and animals while exploring concepts such as patterns\, cause and effect\, and structure and function. \nThe cost to participate is $5 per person per program (adult and children are same price). This includes admission to the Schramm Education Center after the program. Schramm Family Pass members participate free. This program is recommended for ages 5 and up. Please register in advance so we can estimate attendance numbers: https://arcg.is/1HO45W0 . \nParticipants should dress in season-appropriate layers and wear closed-toed shoes that can get dirty. Hats and water bottles are recommended. The day of the program\, come to the Schramm Education Center and check in and pay at the front desk upon arrival. \nDates and topics for the first half of 2025 are as follows. SUMMARY:Monarch & Regal Fritillary Butterfly Survey Training
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested becoming a community scientist and helping conserve Nebraska’s rare\, at-risk butterflies? If so\, please join Nebraska Game and Parks Commission wildlife biologists on Saturday\, May 31 at the Schramm Education Center to learn how to participate in the monarch and regal fritillary community science project. Help us collect valuable data about these at-risk species in the state. \nThe training will open with a presentation at 1 p.m.\, followed by a mock survey. During this extensive training\, you will learn how to walk an assigned transect\, count butterflies\, and assess habitat features. Bring water\, snacks\, notebook\, and a hat for the brief field portion. \nREGISTER HERE \nThis event is free and open to the public. \n
