SUMMARY:Nebraska's Big Butterfly Count In-person Training Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Do you love butterflies?  Are you a community member interested in conservation and science? Then join us for Nebraska’s Big Butterfly Count Training Workshop\, Saturday May 3rd 2025\, 1PM-5PM at the Crane Trust Nature Center\, Wood River \nNebraska’s Big Butterfly Count is a community science project that is designed to collect statewide data in order to better understand butterfly diversity across Nebraska. At this workshop you will learn about community science\, how to identify eastern/central Nebraska butterfly species\, and learn how you can contribute to Nebraska’s Big Butterfly Count. Participants will receive project resources\, guidance\, and support from community science project leaders. \nWe are looking for dedicated volunteers that are willing to conduct a survey at least once every other week\, from May1st through September 30th. \nThis workshop is FREE to attend\, but space is limited.  Register HERE \nFor questions please contact jamie.bachmann@nebraska.gov or brianna.nugent@nebraska.gov \nThis community science project is in collaboration with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission\, Nebraska Master Naturalist\, and the Nebraska Natural Legacy Project.

SUMMARY:Monarch & Regal Fritillary Butterfly Survey Training
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested becoming a community scientist and helping conserve Nebraska’s rare\, at-risk butterflies? If so\, please join Nebraska Game and Parks Commission wildlife biologists on Saturday\, May 31 at the Schramm Education Center to learn how to participate in the monarch and regal fritillary community science project. Help us collect valuable data about these at-risk species in the state. \nThe training will open with a presentation at 1 p.m.\, followed by a mock survey. During this extensive training\, you will learn how to walk an assigned transect\, count butterflies\, and assess habitat features. Bring water\, snacks\, notebook\, and a hat for the brief field portion. \nREGISTER HERE \nThis event is free and open to the public. \n
