DESCRIPTION:Take flight into the fascinating world of birds! Discover incredible adaptations\, learn to identify common species\, and explore how birds survive and thrive in Nebraska’s diverse habitats. \nThe Wildcat Hills Homeschool Program meets once a month at 10 a.m. Mountain Time at the Wildcat Hills Nature Center. Each month\, certified educators will lead a new hands-on nature program exploring the unique ecosystems\, wildlife\, plants\, and habitats of western Nebraska. Through interactive activities\, outdoor exploration\, and observation\, students will build a deeper understanding and appreciation of the natural world. \nThis program is FREE\, but a valid Nebraska Game and Parks Entry Permit is required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. SUMMARY:Homeschool Hikes at Schramm
DESCRIPTION:Homeschool Hikes is a monthly nature exploration program hosted by the Schramm Education Center geared towards homeschool families. Each month\, families can join a naturalist for a guided hike on the Schramm Park State Recreation Area hiking trails. During the program\, participants will ask questions\, draw\, observe\, and make discoveries in nature. Participants will have the opportunity to observe local phenomena\, plants\, and animals while exploring concepts such as patterns\, cause and effect\, and structure and function. \nThe cost to participate is $5 per person per program (adult and children are same price). This includes admission to the Schramm Education Center after the program. Schramm Family Pass members participate free. This program is recommended for ages 5 and up. Please register in advance so we can estimate attendance numbers: https://arcg.is/1HO45W0 . \nParticipants should dress in season-appropriate layers and wear closed-toed shoes that can get dirty. Hats and water bottles are recommended. The day of the program\, come to the Schramm Education Center and check in and pay at the front desk upon arrival. \nDates and topics for the second half of 2026 are as follows. SUMMARY:JOAD Skills
DESCRIPTION:Have you completed Explore Archery and want to learn more? Do you shoot NASP and want to continue working on your archery during the off season? Are you just starting out in archery and want some instruction? If this is you\, our JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) Skills class is just the thing. \nJOAD Skills is open to students who are new to JOAD or who are still working to advance to JOAD Academy. Explore Archery is a recommended prerequisite but not required. \nThis JOAD/AAP course includes achievement awards\, skill training\, and games with a focus on guiding each student in improvement at their own pace. Each session includes a short lesson and coaching while students are on the line. JOAD Skills students have the opportunity to shoot for pins during select class sessions. Over the course of the session\, students will advance their scoring skills\, learn about competition etiquette\, and work to achieve the pins and techniques needed to advance to the next level. \nNo equipment is required\, but personal equipment is allowed for some portions of the class. \nClass is 1 hour\n$80/student\nAges 8 and over \nPrerequisites: None (Explore Archery recommended) \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Second Shots Pistol
DESCRIPTION:Second Shots Pistol is designed to build on the handgun skills introduced in our FIRST SHOTS course. It’s also a good refresher for those who are years out of practice. \nStudents learn more about ammunition\, loading a magazine\, clearing a pistol and locking the slide back\, and handling malfunctions. Plus\, students get the practical experience of loading and shooting a variety of handgun styles and calibers in the range. \nIn the range\, the basics of stance\, sight picture\, and trigger control are emphasized to maximize success. After completing this class\, participants will be prepared to safely use the range on their own. \nOverall\, Second Shots Pistol teaches the basic knowledge\, skills\, and attitude necessary for owning and using a handgun safely. The small class size allows students to ask questions and receive individual advice. \nCourse covers: \n\nHandgun knowledge & review safe handling\nReview fundamentals of handgun shooting\nAmmunition knowledge\nActual range practice\nA variety of pistols\, ammo\, and targets provided\n\nPlease bring your own eye and ear protection. \nIf you have your own pistol\, you may bring it to use on the range (be sure to bring 50 rounds of ammunition). \nClosed-neck shirts and closed-toe shoes are recommended. \nFor students age 16 and over. Students under age 18 MUST be accompanied by legal parent/guardian. \nRecommended prerequisite: FIRST SHOTS Pistol \nCost: $50 \nREGISTER HERE
