Join us at Chimney Rock National Historic Site for the first of a series of guided hikes as a part of this year’s Your Parks Adventure: Trail Trek program!

This guided hike will begin at at 9 a.m. Mountain Time. Meet at the patio. After a welcome and introduction, we will walk to the Dillion bridge and back to Trail B so visitors may take selfie pictures at the Trails Trek sign before returning to the patio.

During the walk, visitors will learn about the geology of the Chimney Rock, where the Overland trails were in relation to Chimney Rock, and interesting facts about what life was like for emigrants traveling through the North Platte Valley on their way to Oregon or California.

Back at the patio, visitors will learn about the typical foods that the emigrants ate along the trail. There will be examples of the food staples that the emigrants carried with them. Visitors will be encouraged to take Nebraska hardtack with them after the program.
