Southeast District Birding Day at Meridian WMA

Join us during Nebraska Bird Month for a birding day at Meridian Wildlife Management Area in southeast Nebraska!

We will meet at 7:30 a.m. at the Meridian WMA shop at 7176 River Rd, Alexandria, NE. From there, we will divide into groups and hike different areas looking for any birds, including grassland, woodland and riverine species.

Birders will reconvene by 11 a.m. at the Meridian WMA shop to list species observed and to hear from speakers who will discuss Meridian WMA management and private lands habitat support.

Lunch: Participants should bring their own lunch and bag chair. A microwave and grill will be available.

Speakers:
Rick Souerdyke – Meridian WMA and surrounding private landowners collaborated on a joint prescribed fire totaling 895 acres in early March following several years of oak savanna restoration efforts on the WMA.

Michele Fuhrer Hurt – Private lands habitat support

What to bring:
Binoculars, bird identification guide, camera, insect repellent, waterproof boots, and clothing appropriate for steep terrain and the weather. Also bring a bag chair to enjoy the speakers at noon.
