Woodpeckers are special birds known for exactly what their name describes- pecking at wood. There are several types of woodpeckers that range in size, appearance, and habitat. Some are distinct and easy to identify such as the red-headed woodpeckers. But others look quite similar to each other like the downy and hairy woodpeckers.
