Take a step back in time this June and explore Rock Creek Station – a place where road ranches served pioneers along the Oregon-California Trail, Pony Express riders carried mail across the West, and Wild Bill Hickok began a legendary career as gunfighter!
Pony Express demonstrations and a narration of the Hickok-McCandles incident will occur at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, and again at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Saturday, June 1st visitors can also enjoy a buffalo stew cookout and guest speaker at 7 p.m. Advanced cookout tickets will be on sale at the park’s Visitor Center and at the Fairbury Chamber of Commerce office. Adults $9/Children $6 (13 and under).
In his program Nebraska’s Musical Smorgasbord, guest speaker Chris Sayre will share songs and melodies that were brought to Nebraska by the various European ethnic groups who settled here in the 19th and early 20th centuries, performed live on a variety of traditional instruments. The presentation is free and open to the public.
Living history demonstrations will be held on the historic ranches throughout the day on both Saturday and Sunday. The Visitor Center will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily during the event.
