Presentation Title: Mussel Madness: Zebra Mussel Invasion in Nebraska

It’s the invasion of the zebra mussels! Zebra mussels are spreading across the US and into Nebraska, bringing a myriad of problems with them. Zebra mussels can negatively impact Nebraska’s aquatic ecosystems, damage our state’s economy and agriculture, and harm Nebraska’s outdoor recreation. Their primary accomplice to helping them spread? YOU! Learn what effects zebra mussels have in Nebraska, how you can prevent zebra mussel invasion in Nebraska, and how to keep Nebraska’s lakes zebra mussel free!

Presenter: Jena Paugels, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission

Jena Paugels is currently the Nebraska Game and Parks Aquatic Invasive Species Biologist. Before accepting the position in 2024, she worked for the AIS Program as a watercraft inspector and temporary biologist from 2022-2024. Paugels earned her B.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife from UNL in 2021 and enjoys working with the public and other agencies to prevent invasive species spread within Nebraska.
