Join us at Ash Hollow State Historical Park’s Visitor Center on Saturday, May 23 at 1:30 p.m. Mountain Time for a reception featuring new exhibit collection.

Karen Little Thunder, Phil Little Thunder and Paul Harney Soderman, all descendants of Chief Little Thunder and General Harney, key players at the 1855 altercation here in Ash Hollow, will offer their comments and speak to the importance of the collection being returned to the area. The reception will open and close with a musical prayer for healing by Joseph Medicine Robe. 

The main topic is the 1855 massacre belongings which were returned to the family last fall and are now housed here at Ash Hollow. They have been held with the Smithsonian since 1856 and  formally accessioned in 1865. The exhibit includes a doll, two pairs of moccasins, a saddle pad, quiver, bow and arrow and a bison bladder pouch containing beautiful dyed quills. The items will be on display through May 25.

Guests are welcome to stay and enjoy refreshments, ask questions or tour the park until we close for the day at 4 p.m. 

This event is hosted by Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation, Wander Nebraska and Nebraska Game and Parks.

Admission: $5 for ages 13 and up, $2 for ages 12 and under

A valid Nebraska state park vehicle permit is required for park entry.
