Monarch and Regal Fritillary Butterfly Survey Training at Schramm Park SRA

June 3 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Do you want to learn more about at-risk butterflies in Nebraska? Are you interested in helping conserve Nebraska’s butterflies? Looking for a way to contribute to local conservation efforts? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then the Nebraska Game and Parks Monarch and Regal Fritillary Survey may be for you!

The Nebraska Game and Parks Monarch and Regal Fritillary Survey is a community science effort that asks volunteers to help researchers learn more about Monarch and Regal Fritillary Butterflies in Nebraska. This survey primarily takes place in the tallgrass prairie ecoregion of Nebraska (the eastern quarter of the state). However, we are working to expand surveys throughout the rest of Nebraska.

This in-person training will take place on June 3rd at 1 to 5 p.m. Central at Schramm Park State Recreation Area. Anyone interested in butterflies is welcome to join the first hour of the training to learn general information about monarchs, regal fritillaries, common plants, and other community science opportunities. After this initial introduction, anyone that is interested in becoming a survey volunteer is invited to stay to learn how to participate.

To register for the June 3rd in-person training, please fill out the Google Form at the link below.

If you cannot make the June 3rd in-person training, we have an additional in person training opportunity at Homestead National Historic Park on May 20th from 1 to 5 p.m. (register at the above link).

If you are unable to make either of the in-person training dates, you can complete a virtual training on your own time with a recorded training (…). While the video training covers everything you need to know to participate in the project, in-person trainings will involve hands-on experience and are preferred.

For more information, please contact the survey leader, Cody Dreier, at or 402-471-1755.
