Travel back in time and experience history on the Great Plains at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park! This weekend’s theme will be “The Desertion of Musician Knight”. Ongoing demonstrations featuring military and civilian life from the Revolutionary War will occur throughout the park. Reenactors portray fur traders, coopers, blacksmiths, carpenters, tinsmiths, weavers and other period trades. Visitors are encouraged to interact with the reenactors. There will also be a archeology tour. The military timeline will focus on the Revolutionary War to present-day.
10 a.m. – The Troop (roll call, inspection, raise colors and morning gun at the flag pole)
10:15 a.m. – Prepare for inspection
11 a.m. – Eric Krelle presents, “Flag Raising at Iwo Jima” (Visitor Center)
Noon – Assembly, noon gun
12:05 p.m. – Dinner call: peas upon a trencher at the flag pole
12:30 p.m. – Archeology tour (powder magazine)
1:30 p.m. – Helicopter landing (west gate)
2:30 p.m. – “Return of the Deserter, Musician Knight” (west gate)
4 p.m. – The Retreat (roll call, inspection, evening gun, flag is lowered; call in sentries & cease all challenging. End of public hours.
Gun will be fired at 10, noon and 4 p.m., at least.
A valid Nebraska Park Entry Permit is required for all vehicles to enter the park and can be purchased at the site. A per person fee is required at the Harold W. Andersen Visitor Center of $4 per adult and $1 per child.
