Travel 200 years back in time and experience history on the Great Plains at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park!

Living History events occur from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the first weekend of each month between May and October. Ongoing demonstrations featuring military and civilian life of the 1820s will occur throughout the park. Reenactors portray fur traders, coopers, blacksmiths, carpenters, tinsmiths, weavers and other period trades. There will also be potato planting demonstrations. Visitors are encouraged to interact with the reenactors.

The theme for the weekend of May 2-3, 2026 is “The demise of Mrs. Eliza Wooley”.

Activity schedule

10 a.m. – Troop roll call, inspection, raise colours, and morning gun at the flag pole
10:15 a.m. – Church on Sunday at the North barrack
10:30 a.m. –“The Demise of Mrs. Eliza Woolley” at the West barrack
11 a.m. – “History of Alcohol in Early America” by Ron Westlake at the Visitor Center theater
Noon – Noon gun and announcement about Mrs. Eliza Woolley at the flag pole
12:30 p.m. – Wake of Mrs. Woolley at the Surgeon’s quarters, West barrack
1 p.m. – Visit the gardens to see what they planted!
1:30 p.m. – Military drills (Flag Pole)
4 p.m. – The Retreat (Roll call, Inspection, evening gun, flagpole)
Gun will be fired at 10 a.m., noon and 4 p.m. (at least).

A valid Nebraska Park Entry Permit is required for all vehicles to enter the park and can be purchased at the site.
