Living History at Fort Atkinson: Harvesting 1823 Style

Join us at Fort Atkinson SHP for a Harvesting 1823 Style Living History Weekend!

Schedule:

  • 10 a.m. –  The troop roll call, inspection, raise colours, morning gun and flag pole raise
  • 10 a.m. – Archeological dig, west side of barracks (ongoing)
  • 10:15 a.m. – Prepare for inspection (Sat. only at the flagpole)
  • 10:30 a.m. – Lisa Grabenbauer of Prairie Star Botanicals Speech “Prairie Flowers and Medicinal Plants”
  • 11 a.m. – Traditional food preservation techniques using local foods (Sat. Only at the Council House)
  • Noon – Assembly; noon gun at the flagpole on Parade Ground
  • 12:05 p.m. – Dinner call (Peas upon a trencher)
  • Noon – Pressing apples for cider (Sat. only at the south gate)
  • Noon – Log hewing (Sun. only at the Traders Cabin)
  • 12:15 p.m. – “Feeding the Frontier Fort” (Sun. Only at the Council House)
  • 1:15 p.m. – Haying 1820s style (near the north gate)
  • 1:45 p.m. – Harvesting demonstration (near the garden)
  • 2:15 p.m. – Winnowing at the camp recovery platform
  • 4 p.m. – The Retreat (Roll call, inspection and evening gun at the flagpole)
    Flag is lowered; call in sentries–cease all challenging. End of public hours

On going: spinners, weavers, trader’s cabin, blacksmith/tinsmith, cooper, and more!
